Abracadabra Tortona Overview

First Impressions

Abracadabra Tortona sits on a quiet side street in one of Milan’s most interesting neighborhoods, and honestly, the name gives you a pretty good hint about what to expect inside. This four-star boutique hotel has this playful, almost theatrical vibe that hits you the moment you walk through the doors — think contemporary design with unexpected artistic touches that somehow work perfectly together.

The Navigli Experience

You know what’s great about staying here? You’re right in the heart of Navigli, which means you can stumble out of the hotel and find yourself along Milan’s famous canals within minutes. The area comes alive in the evenings — locals gather at the canal-side bars for aperitivo, and there’s this energy that’s hard to find in other parts of the city. During the day, it’s quieter, perfect for wandering the vintage shops and small galleries tucked between residential buildings.

The Room

My room had this unexpected mix of modern comfort and quirky design details that made it feel more like staying at a creative friend’s place than a typical hotel. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and they’ve managed to fit everything you need without making the space feel cramped. What I really appreciated was the attention to lighting — there are actually enough outlets near the bed, and the blackout curtains work properly, which isn’t always a given in boutique places.

Dining and Atmosphere

The hotel’s restaurant serves solid Italian fare, but honestly, you’re better off exploring the neighborhood for dinner. What they do well is breakfast — nothing fancy, but fresh pastries and proper coffee that’ll fuel your Milan adventures. The common areas have this relaxed, artistic atmosphere where you might find yourself chatting with other travelers or just enjoying a drink before heading out for the evening.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gets the balance right between style and substance. You’re not paying for over-the-top amenities you won’t use, but everything that’s there actually functions well. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best aperitivo spots or help you figure out which tram gets you to the Duomo fastest. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clear that other travelers appreciate this approach too. If you want to experience Milan like someone who actually lives here, rather than just hitting the touristy spots, Abracadabra Tortona puts you in exactly the right place to do that.

Best hotels in Milan blend rooftop terraces, contemporary Italian style, and traditional Milanese breakfast spreads.

Reviews of Abracadabra Tortona

  • Superb – Ana from France – 23 September 2025 (9/10)

It is well located, and the breakfast was so good

What could be improved: There are not lift

  • Worth of choose. – Zanetkaaaw from Poland – 11 September 2025 (9/10)

Very nice flat, interesting design. Nice host.

What could be improved: Location, far away from the Centre.

  • Clean, on time, good breakfast, basically it had everything to feel comfortable – Reza from Italy – 2 June 2025 (10/10)

The host was great good understanding and good communication

What could be improved: For me wasn’t a problem but for older people because it on third floor is hard without elevator I guess

  • Very good – Sasha from Australia – 15 September 2024 (8/10)

The stay was very comfortable, perfect for myself as a solo traveller. The space had almost everything I needed, and the cleaner was able to help me with small issues that I had. The voucher for the local cafe was a great way to meet people and familiarise myself with the area of the property. The staff at the cafe were lovely and hospitable, and the food was great! Communications with the host were great, Barbara tended to my needs and came and met me after I checked in.

What could be improved: It was very difficult to find the property. I was also under the impression that I would be staying within a hostel type organisation, however it was an apartment within a residential block. It would have been reassuring to know this before arriving.

  • all good – R from Luxembourg – 9 August 2024 (8/10)

Good stay met expectations, no issues to mention. good location

What could be improved: Nothing to mention, good location, friendly staff, good facilities

  • Clean and comfortable with some interesting areas nearby. I’d recommend it for a short stay or business trip. – Phillip from Australia – 24 May 2024 (8/10)

Very clean room and bathroom and the bed was comfortable. The owners are friendly and the people at the cafe who provide breakfast were friendly too.

What could be improved: The rooms are quite poky and the walls quite thin so you do hear some noise from other guests coming and going.

  • Superb – Natallia from Belarus – 31 July 2023 (9/10)

the nicest b&b, with clean and tidy facilities, all toiletries you can possibly think of, air conditioning (which is essential in Italian summer), mini fridge with two water bottles, nice wifi. the towels were changed every day, checking in and out was smooth, and breakfast in the nearby cafe, though with limited choices (mostly pastry) was still rather good and very pleasant. location's good too, it's 30 minutes tops to get to the city center or main railway stations by bus + metro.

What could be improved: not major inconveniences, just a couple of small details:
    – there was only a small bin in the bathroom, having another one in the room would be handy
    – the bed was a bit too soft for me

  • A nice and friendly hotel in a good location. – Peter from United Kingdom – 3 July 2023 (8/10)

The hotel is ideally situated for all the bars and restaurants in the Navigli area and a 10 minute walk or 3 stops away on the bus to the Romolo metro station. From there you can easily access anywhere in Milan.
Breakfast is at a cafe just around the corner for which you are given vouchers and is a typical continental style.
Francesco was there to greet me on arrival and offered good advice on getting about, but the real star of the show was Barbara. I was stupid enough to leave some items of clothing behind, but she contacted me on my way home and arranged for them to be posted back.

What could be improved: Not really a criticism but you had 3 separate keys to access the property.

  • Good, clean rooms- fabulous breakfast and a good location but not if you don’t like walking – a lot! – Andrea from United Kingdom – 25 June 2023 (8/10)

It was clean and tidy and the breakfast provided at the Dinchy Café was fabulous. The owner was excellent when our plane was delayed. Initially, we weren’t sure of the location, but if you want public transport into Milan centre, it’s good. Also it’s not what I would call, technically, in Navigli but you can cross the main road and navigate quickly to join the canal and walk into the centre (about 45 mins).

What could be improved: Tea making facilities lacked- the kettle is there but no milk and no ‘English’ tea bags. Don’t get me wrong- you just bring your own and grab milk but even so…

  • Nice hotel in a very good location – Eugeniusz from Poland – 7 June 2023 (8/10)

Very Italian, I have enjoyed it
