Antica Locanda Dei Mercanti Overview
First Impressions
Antica Locanda Dei Mercanti sits tucked away on Via San Tomaso, and honestly, you could walk right past it if you weren’t looking carefully. The entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s elegant Milanese home than a typical hotel — which, I suppose, is exactly the point. This four-star boutique property has that effortless Italian charm that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though it’s right in the heart of Milan City Centre.
Location & Getting Around
You’re literally a three-minute walk from La Scala, which still amazes me every time I think about it. The Duomo? Maybe seven minutes if you stroll slowly and stop to window shop. What I love about this spot is how it sits on this quiet cobblestone street, yet you’re surrounded by some of Milan’s best shopping and dining. The Quadrilatero della Moda is right there, but you know what — you don’t feel overwhelmed by tourist crowds when you come back to the hotel.
The Room Experience
My room had this wonderful mix of antique furniture and modern comfort that actually works (sometimes these boutique places get it wrong, but not here). The beds are seriously comfortable, and the bathrooms are compact but well-designed — very Italian in that efficient way. What struck me most was the attention to detail: fresh flowers, quality linens, and these beautiful wooden shutters that make you feel like you’re in a period film about Milan.
Dining & Daily Life
There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, which might seem like a drawback until you realize you’re surrounded by incredible dining options. The staff — and I mean this — genuinely know the neighborhood and will steer you toward places locals actually go to. They serve a continental breakfast that’s simple but good quality, with proper Italian coffee that’ll wake you up properly. I actually preferred having breakfast here and then exploring different spots for lunch and dinner.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try too hard. The Antica Locanda Dei Mercanti feels authentic in a city where many hotels lean heavily into either modern minimalism or over-the-top opulence. The service is personal without being intrusive — they remember your name, help with reservations, and genuinely seem to care that you’re enjoying Milan. It’s the kind of place where you’d want to stay again, not just because it’s well-located (though it absolutely is), but because it captures something essential about what makes this city special.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Milan before spring brings wisteria blooms, design installations, and warm evening breezes.

A perfect location, easy walk to Duomo, Sforza Castle, La Scala, shopping, dining and sites. Also to The Last Supper. Need to taxi Navigli (canal) area and to Centrale Station.
What could be improved: Loved it all–be aware that while there is an elevator, you first must walk up five steps to get to it. The location of La Locanda dei Mercati in tne center of Milan is wonderful, in my favorite area of Brera and walking distance to Vittorio Emanuelle Mall. The service, the beauty of the room, the breakfast were excellent. The people working there are very accommodating and helpful.
What could be improved: I thought it was very nice..Very good – Caroline from Australia – 17 September 2025 (8/10)
Fantastic location in Milan and the room
was beautifully presented and comfortable. The reception staff were excellent , friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Air con was very noisy so we turned it off and then of course got too hot during the night. Opened the window but found it too noisy! I think the aircon needs some maintenance. Otherwise the stay was delightful and we would definately stay again.Superb – Lisa from United States – 14 September 2025 (9/10)
Lovely room on quiet street yet close to everything. Staff were always available. We enjoyed breakfast one day of our stay and it was excellent. We would definitely return to this hotel.
What could be improved: Only thing that would be nice is a kettle in the room but other than that, we cannot think of anything else we were missing.Exceptional – Victor from United States – 10 September 2025 (10/10)
The staff was exceptional. Helpful in every way. I would return again because of them. Thank you.
