First Impressions

Walking up to Duomo-Navigli GramugliHouse on Viale Carlo Troya, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside. It’s tucked into a residential building in the Navigli district, which actually ended up being one of my favorite things about it. You feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment rather than just another cookie-cutter hotel room.

The Navigli Neighborhood

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Milan like a local. You’re right in the heart of Navigli, where the evening aperitivo scene is unmatched — I mean, you can literally hear the buzz from the canal-side bars from your window (in a good way). The Porta Genova metro station is maybe a seven-minute walk, so getting to the Duomo or anywhere else in the city center is pretty straightforward.

The Space

This four-star place operates more like a boutique guesthouse than a traditional hotel. My room felt spacious and thoughtfully designed, with modern touches that didn’t try too hard to be trendy. The kitchen area was compact but functional — perfect for storing those Italian groceries you’ll inevitably buy at the local market. What surprised me was how quiet it stayed despite being in such a lively neighborhood.

Local Perks

Here’s what you won’t find in most guidebooks: there’s this fantastic little restaurant called Osteria del Borgo just around the corner that serves incredible risotto alla milanese. The staff at GramugliHouse actually recommended it, which tells you something about how connected they are to the neighborhood. Also, parking in this area can be tricky, but they’ve got arrangements that make it way less stressful than I expected.

Why Guests Love It

You know what really sets this place apart? It strikes that sweet spot between being independent enough to feel like you have your own Milan base, but with enough service to feel taken care of. The 8.7 rating makes total sense when you experience how the little details — good water pressure, reliable WiFi, genuinely helpful recommendations — just work without any fuss. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels like abandoning your temporary Milan life.

  Everything was nice and easy. We received easy instructions upon arrival. The apartment was spacious and clean. It has everything you could possibly need for your stay.
