Location & Getting Around

The Isola-Garibaldi area where this hotel sits is sort of Milan’s answer to Brooklyn — once industrial, now buzzing with creativity and locals who actually live here. I mean, you’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the Duomo, but you’ll find yourself wanting to explore the neighborhood instead. The Porta Garibaldi station is maybe an 8-minute walk, and there’s this great morning market nearby that most tourists never discover.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully designed — no wasted space, everything you need without the clutter. The eco-friendly touches aren’t gimmicky either; the bamboo fixtures and energy-efficient lighting actually create a calmer atmosphere than your typical hotel setup. The beds are surprisingly comfortable for a property at this price point, and the blackout curtains work well (trust me, Milan’s summer sunrises come early).

BioRiso Restaurant & Dining

Here’s where things get interesting — the on-site restaurant specializes in organic risotto, which sounds niche until you try it. I was skeptical, but their saffron risotto with local cheese changed my mind completely. The breakfast spread focuses on organic and locally-sourced ingredients, and while it’s not extensive, everything tastes fresh and intentional. Plus, the staff actually knows where their ingredients come from, which you don’t encounter often.

Look, this isn’t a place for Instagram luxury shots or marble bathrooms. What it offers is something rarer — authenticity in a city where that’s getting harder to find. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you consider the value: clean, comfortable accommodations with a genuine environmental philosophy, in a neighborhood that feels like real Milan. If you’re the type of traveler who’d rather discover a local wine bar than hunt for designer boutiques, this place gets it.

  The food was really good and not typically British. We had a suite which was a good size which was cleaned everyday. There was a minibus which took us to Garda on the days we went, it takes 40 minutes to walk and the weather was really hot so this was really appreciated. My children loved the football pitch which they used a lot. I had an amazing massage at the relaxing spa which is immaculate. Gluten free is well catered for, I have an intolerance (not allergy) and I found there was a good choice for gluten free.
  
  What could be improved: The shuttle service to Garda stops for a few hours in the afternoon and resumes later on in the day, it would have been good to have this in the afternoon too. Walking back in the heat uphill is hard. The plug sockets in the suite we had were not brilliant, some did not work. We played an hour of tennis which was 35 euros, this did include racket hire but was very expensive.

  Location is stellar, about 5 minute walk to the metro station and a big supermarket. Staff was very nice, the room was cozy and I really appreciated the refrigerator.
  
  What could be improved: I would like to suggest to deep clean the bathroom a bit more often, there were signs of a mold starting. Also, if you are afraid of people stealing your umbrellas, maybe you can lend those for a deposit, especially if you claim to be the "eco friendly" business.

  Our stopover in Milan was unplanned and we booked at the last minute, arriving late at night, but we were well looked after here. The room had everything we needed for our short overnight stay. We loved the eco focus of this hostel.
