Hotel Mentana, by R Collection Hotels Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Mentana, by R Collection Hotels on Via Morigi feels like stumbling upon Milan’s best-kept secret. This four-star gem sits in a narrow street that most tourists rush past on their way to the Duomo, but honestly — that’s exactly what makes it special. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly Italian way, and you immediately sense you’ve found something more intimate than those massive chain hotels nearby.

Location & Neighborhood

You’re literally in the heart of Milan here, but on a quieter side street that locals actually use. I mean, you can walk to the cathedral in about eight minutes, but you’re tucked away from all that tourist chaos. The Cordusio metro stop is right around the corner, which honestly makes getting anywhere in the city ridiculously easy. What I really love is how you’ll find proper Milanese bars and trattorias within a two-block radius — places where businesspeople grab their morning espresso, not just tourists taking photos.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and Italian character. Nothing too flashy, but everything worked exactly as it should — which, let’s be honest, isn’t always guaranteed in boutique hotels. The beds are actually comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss that can be), and the bathrooms feel recently updated without losing their charm. The windows open onto either the quiet street or an internal courtyard, so you get that authentic Milan apartment vibe without the noise.

Service & Amenities

The staff here genuinely seem to care about making your stay work — they’re not just going through the motions. When I needed dinner recommendations, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map with his personal favorites marked. There’s no spa or fitness center, but there is a small business area if you need to get work done. The hotel restaurant focuses on regional specialties, and while I only tried breakfast there, it was clearly made with quality ingredients rather than just thrown together.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try too hard. You’re staying in central Milan without paying those ridiculous rates that come with staying directly on Corso Buenos Aires or near La Scala. The 8.3 rating makes perfect sense when you experience it — it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need. Plus, there’s something refreshing about a hotel that feels more like a well-run Italian pension than a corporate property, especially when you can still walk to all the major shopping and sights within fifteen minutes.

Reviews of Hotel Mentana, by R Collection Hotels

  • It was okay not bad for a 4 star Europe hotel – Manar from Bahrain – 2 October 2025 (9/10)

It was clean, close to the center

What could be improved: Walls are too thin, you can literally hear everything and the room is so tiny

  • Very good – Kathleen from United States – 23 September 2025 (8/10)

Spacious room and very nice bathroom. Bed was a little too soft, but that is a personal preference. Location was close enough to the Duomo, about a 10-minute walk. Staff was great and very helpful.

  • Very good – Saule from Kazakhstan – 15 September 2025 (8/10)

    Breakfast was good

What could be improved: Lift is too old

  • A pleasure to come back to. – Peter from Australia – 6 July 2025 (9/10)

Modern interior. Great breakfast and friendly helpful staff.

  • Convenient location and bedrooms are lovely. – Kiri from Ireland – 30 June 2025 (7/10)

Bedrooms are very well finished/modern and comfortable. Lovely bathroom, rain head shower. Good location.

What could be improved: One lift, and it’s tiny. Lobby is very basic.

  • Wonderful stay at the Mentana – Andrea from United States – 22 May 2025 (9/10)

Room was on top floor, rather small but super modern and comfortable and enough for 2 people with carry on luggage. Good size, modern bathroom, lovely rooftop views from the bathroom window. Absolutely loved the breakfast, location in walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Very grateful for letting us check in an hour early after arriving from California on a long flight. That gave us a chance to take a nap and dive right into Milan on the day of arrival.

What could be improved: Not sure if it is a dislike, but despite the great insulated windows and top floor, you can still hear street noise. But that is also a beauty of the location – there is a park right next to the hotel where young people gather in the evening – you can hear the buzz of voices until late. But again – it's only a downside if you are tired, otherwise it's very comforting.

  • Great to explore the city – Sergei from Australia – 19 May 2025 (8/10)

Very comfortable, clean rooms with complimentary tea and coffee and a cake as well. Stayed for one night there. It is close to the attractions, shops, etc, easy to reach from the airport. Good breakfast to start the day

What could be improved: Did not find anything negative during my stay

  • Better than many 4* in Milan – Mikhail from France – 4 May 2025 (9/10)

Absolutely respects its 4 stars. Clean room with everything you need, nice welcoming cookies, friendly staff, super soft towels and robes. I couldn’t take my breakfast due to early departure, and I was offered a good food package instead exactly at the time I requested.

What could be improved: Better to replace hairdryer to a new one. This current one is awful.

  • Very good – Antoine from Malta – 24 April 2025 (8/10)

Centrally located, just 10min away from Duomo in a very quite piazza. Restaurants close by

What could be improved: It was all good

  • Very good – Hassen from South Africa – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

    Rooms are modern
    Very friendly staff
    Location is good

What could be improved: Rooms and bathroom very small.
