First Impressions

When I first walked up to Maison Hermes on Largo Promessi Sposi, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect — the address sounds pretty grand, but this corner of Milan feels refreshingly residential. The four-star property sits in what locals call the Famagosta area, and honestly, it’s one of those neighborhoods that feels authentically Milanese without all the tourist chaos you get closer to the Duomo.

The Neighborhood Scene

Here’s what I really appreciated about staying here — you’re in a proper Milan neighborhood where people actually live and work. The Famagosta metro station is just a short walk away, which means you can zip into the city center in about 15 minutes when you want to. But when you come back in the evening, you’re returning to tree-lined streets and local trattorias where the servers don’t automatically switch to English.

The room I stayed in had this clean, contemporary feel without being sterile — you know what I mean? Good lighting (which honestly makes such a difference when you’re getting ready to go out), decent closet space, and a bathroom that actually felt modern. The staff here seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and I noticed they knew returning guests by name.

Getting Around

What struck me most was how easy it was to explore different parts of Milan from here. The Navigli district — where all the canal-side bars and restaurants are — is totally doable by tram or metro. And if you’re planning to visit places like Brera or even do some shopping in the Quadrilatero, the connections are surprisingly straightforward. I mean, you’re not walking to everything, but that’s actually kind of nice because it means you’re staying somewhere real Milanese rather than in the tourist bubble.

Look, this isn’t the flashiest hotel in Milan, but that 8.8 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place where things just work — the wifi doesn’t cut out, the shower has proper water pressure, and you don’t feel like you’re being nickel-and-dimed for every little thing. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying in a neighborhood where you might actually bump into the same café owner twice during your stay.

  The apartment was clean & comfortable., quite small but that didn’t matter as we were only there for the night. BedsThe host had provided coffee pods and bottles of water which we really appreciated. The beds are comfortable and that’s all I needed and wanted!

  What could be improved: The walk from the station was quite dark and gloomy, didn’t feel very safe but the next morning walking back to the station was fine. I think young women that book just need to be careful and maybe get a taxi to the apartment rather than walk, we made a mistake as it looked quite close on maps

  Owner is very responsive and helpful, location is a bit far from the center but commute was convenient and there’s a bus stop just outside the building

  A very nicely furnished apartment, very clean. Near the metro and bus stop. Very comfortable beds! And it was great that there were two bedrooms; it's hard to find an apartment like this, perfect for a small family. Communication with the host was easy, and everything went smoothly.
  
  What could be improved: There were no hooks for towels in the bathroom. There was no kettle. And one last thing, the apartment is poorly soundproofed, and we could hear noise from the neighbors and the neighbour’s TV was playing very loudly all night, so if you're sensitive to noise, I recommend earplugs.
