Picaflor Art & Rooms Overview
First Impressions
Picaflor Art & Rooms caught my attention immediately — and honestly, it’s not what you’d expect from a three-star place in Milan. The name means “hummingbird” in Spanish, which makes perfect sense once you step inside and see the vibrant artwork covering nearly every surface. It’s tucked away on Via Antonio Pacinotti in the Isola district, and I mean tucked away — you could easily walk past it if you’re not paying attention.
Location & Neighborhood
The Isola area is actually one of Milan’s coolest neighborhoods right now, though it’s still flying under the radar for most tourists. You’re about a 10-minute metro ride from the Duomo, but honestly, you’ll probably spend more time exploring the local scene here. There are these fantastic little bars and restaurants within walking distance, and the whole area has this artsy, residential vibe that feels authentically Milanese. The Porta Garibaldi station is close enough that getting around the city is pretty straightforward.
The Room Experience
My room was small — let’s be real about that — but it was designed so thoughtfully that it didn’t feel cramped. Every piece of furniture seemed carefully chosen, and there were these quirky artistic touches that made it feel more like staying in a creative friend’s place than a standard hotel. The bathroom was surprisingly modern, and I appreciated that they’d invested in good lighting (you know how hotel lighting can be). The bed was comfortable enough, though if you’re used to five-star amenities, you might notice the difference.
Art & Atmosphere
What really sets this place apart is the art — and I’m not talking about generic hotel prints. Local artists have contributed pieces throughout the building, and it changes regularly, so it’s like staying in a rotating gallery. The common areas have this creative energy that actually makes you want to hang out rather than just pass through. There’s a small kitchen area where you can grab coffee or a light snack, and it’s become this informal meeting spot where guests end up chatting.
Why Guests Love It
Look, if you’re expecting a traditional hotel experience with a concierge and room service, this isn’t your place. But if you want something with personality in a neighborhood that feels like the real Milan, Picaflor Art & Rooms delivers. The staff genuinely care about what they’re doing here — you can tell they’re proud of the space they’ve created. It’s the kind of place where you’ll discover something new each time you walk through the lobby, and honestly, that’s worth more than fancy amenities to me.
Apartments in Milan suit families with balcony windows, full kitchens, and sunset strolls through Sempione Park gardens.

Clean and nice room, Matteo was very accommodating which was really appreciated. Good service for the price paid.
What could be improved: Overall, we were pleased with our stay.Superb – Shivam from India – 17 August 2025 (9/10)
Very good host who guided every bit in advance about checkin process and made sure it was smooth for us. Room was good with AC working
What could be improved: NASuperb – Antoni from Poland – 24 July 2025 (9/10)
Nice beds and A/C, shared spaces also good. Logical check-in instructions
What could be improved: Noisy neighbours, some things weren't as clean as they could be (e.g. shower curtain)Very good but thin walls – Maara_ from Czech Republic – 24 July 2025 (7/10)
Kind owner, comfy bed, there's Lidl nearby. The room was pretty and mostly clean.
What could be improved: We would appreciate a fridge in the room, but there was a shared one at the reception. There are also no cups in the room, but plastic ones are available at the reception too.
The walls are VERY thin. We were woken up at 4am by our neighbor showering, getting notifications and calling someone, and we could hear every single word. Of course it depends on the kind of neighbor you get but if you're a light sleeper then you might have an issue.Nice stay – Edward from Israel – 19 July 2025 (8/10)
Clean and nice room. Big shower. 30 minutes away from city center.
What could be improved: Some little details could be repaired. Like the shower head.Superb – Sebastian from Poland – 8 June 2025 (9/10)
Everything was great. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The location was ok.
What could be improved: The walls are pretty thin, so any noise in another room or in the corridor was hearable.Amazing – Eslam from Saudi Arabia – 15 September 2024 (9/10)
Staff is amazing and helpful
Clean rooms
What could be improved: AC to some extent need to be developedFriendly, clean and comfortable hotel great for a stopover when travelling through Milan. – Christopher from United Kingdom – 18 August 2024 (8/10)
Great communication from the hotel team. Spacious and clean room with air con.
What could be improved: Slight noise from other guests. Location slightly out of the centre (hence affordable price) but easily accessible by bus from Milano Centrale.Very good value for money, highway recommend 🙂 – Paula from Poland – 17 August 2024 (8/10)
We really liked how the owner contacted us – he messaged us on WhatsApp before our arrival and before check out to remind us about formalities – like how to get there, the gate code, the check in process and the city tax. He was very polite and always responded quickly.
Another thing we enjoyed was the location – next to many bus and tram stops that could take you to all Milan must-see landmarks. Nearby there was also a Lidl, which was great for a quick breakfast or to grab something to drink.
The room itself was very clean and tidy 🙂
What could be improved: The bathroom was a little broken – the shower door and toilet seat were a little loose so it was sometimes hard to close/open them.
We could also tell that the air conditioning hasn’t been cleaned for a long time as there has been a specific smell. It also didn’t fully chill our room – but it worked well enough to maintain around 23 degrees temperature 🙂
