Residence Desenzano Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Residence Desenzano in the San Siro district, I’ll be honest — it’s not the flashiest place you’ll find in Milan. But that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star property sits on a quiet residential street, and there’s something refreshing about stepping away from the tourist chaos into a neighborhood that feels authentically Milanese. The building itself has that solid, unpretentious Italian architecture that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real.
The Neighborhood Reality
San Siro gets overlooked by most visitors, which honestly works in your favor. You’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the Duomo, but here’s what I really appreciated — you can actually grab a morning espresso at the corner bar without fighting through crowds of selfie-stick wielding tourists. The famous San Siro Stadium is practically next door if you’re into football, and the Metro Lotto stop is close enough that getting around the city is surprisingly easy. Plus, there are actual grocery stores and local trattorias where you’ll hear more Italian than English.
The Living Space
My room was more like a small apartment, which caught me off guard in the best way. The kitchenette isn’t huge, but it’s functional — I mean, you’ve got a proper fridge, stovetop, and enough counter space to make breakfast or heat up leftovers from that amazing risotto place down the street. The furniture feels a bit dated (think early 2000s IKEA), but everything’s clean and the bed was actually comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked fine, though the bathroom could use some updating.
What Works Here
You know what really sold me on this place? The staff genuinely seemed to care about helping rather than just going through the motions. When I asked about getting to Navigli for dinner, the guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map showing the quickest route and mentioned which bars to hit afterward. There’s no fancy restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Milan — why would you want to eat hotel food when there’s incredible pizza al taglio two blocks away?
Why Guests Love It
Look, Residence Desenzano isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works. You get a decent place to sleep with enough space to spread out, you save money compared to the designer hotels in Brera, and you actually get to experience Milan like someone who lives here rather than just visits. The parking situation is manageable (not guaranteed in this city), and you’re close enough to everything that matters without paying those insane central location prices. If you want Instagram-perfect luxury, look elsewhere — but if you want a solid base for exploring Milan without breaking the bank, this place delivers.

The room was clean and comfortable.
I especially liked the kitchenette which was well equipped.
Very good free WiFi.
Overall, a good hotel for staying in, and exploring Milan.
What could be improved: I think the strict check-in by 7 pm policy or they cancel your booking with no refund is quite harsh and not customer friendly. Even if you're delayed by circumstances beyond your control.Good overnight stay in Milan – Ben from United Kingdom – 31 October 2025 (8/10)
