Art Café Tulipani Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Art Café Tulipani on Via dei Tulipani, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical hotel. The name gives it away — this four-star property actually started as an art café, and honestly, that creative DNA shows everywhere. The entrance feels more like stepping into a friend’s stylish apartment than a standard hotel lobby, which I mean in the best possible way.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in a proper residential area of Milan, not stuck in some touristy bubble. Via dei Tulipani sits in the Lorenteggio district, and while it might not sound glamorous, you’re actually perfectly positioned between the Navigli canal area and San Siro stadium. The metro connection at Bande Nere gets you to the Duomo in about 20 minutes, but honestly, some of Milan’s best aperitivo spots are just a short walk away.
The Room Experience
Each room feels curated rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Mine had this quirky mix of vintage Italian furniture and contemporary art pieces — some actually created by local artists, which explains the “Art Café” part of the name. The beds are proper comfortable, and you know what really impressed me? The attention to lighting. Instead of those harsh overhead fixtures, they’ve got these warm, ambient lamps that make evening wind-down actually pleasant.
Dining & Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant area doubles as both breakfast spot and evening social hub. Breakfast isn’t your typical hotel buffet spread — they do this Italian-style continental setup with really good coffee (obviously crucial in Milan) and fresh pastries from a local bakery. Evenings, the space transforms into more of a wine bar where guests and locals actually mingle, creating this authentic neighborhood vibe that’s pretty rare in hotels.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Art Café Tulipani work is how it feels genuine rather than manufactured. The staff knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward that little osteria around the corner that doesn’t show up in guidebooks, or explain which tram line actually gets you to Brera faster than the metro. It’s the kind of place where you end up having conversations with other travelers over morning coffee, and where the 8.5 rating makes perfect sense once you realize you’re paying for character and location, not marble lobbies and room service.

My family loved this apartment , very modern , stylish , comfortable . Location is very good , close to Metro line , near by many shops , restaurants , 2 min away a cross the street very nice bakery.
Apartment was clean , very warm , included everything you need starting from pots, plates , utensils for cooking , coffee machine , microwave , fridge , washing machine . Hosts left also a map , many booklets , suggestions where to order or eat food.
We recommend this apartment to everyone .Super cute property with a lot of personality – Katie from Australia – 14 September 2025 (9/10)
This place was so cute! The owners had clearly put a lot of effort into styling the place and making it feel nostalgic, with neon signs, a radio playing and lots of cute details like a typewriter with a 'typed' history of the property and its owners inside. Super well located, very close to the metro. I really enjoyed our stay.
What could be improved: Had a few difficulties with check-in, but was able to contact the property and get it sorted very quickly which was great. More stairs inside the apartment than I was anticipating, so wouldn't be particularly suitable for someone with mobility issues, but it was just fine for my group.Everything was even better than we thought. Communication with host was perfect and really helpful. – Maja from Poland – 19 March 2025 (10/10)
Location was near to bus station and metro so it was easy to go to center. The apartament was next to adorable bakery. And the host hosted us perfectly – everything was clean and clear.

Clean, really nice. Even though we arrived late and called the owner at late hours, he was still nice and helped us.
smaller apartment for a shorter stay – Tomas from Czech Republic – 21 May 2024 (6/10)
it is a ground-floor apartment with a bathroom and a bedroom in the basement, close to public transport, quiet neighborhood, well-equipped, clean and tidy
What could be improved: crumbling pull-out bed in the living room, smell of mold and dampness, poor ventilation of the space, damp and moldy wall leading to the bathroomExcellent – Joanna from Poland – 23 February 2024 (10/10)
The place was extremely clean, very cosy and spacious at the same time. (There were 6 of us.) there was no problem to get to the city nor at night or in the very morning. We also recommend the lagoon blue – amazing food🙂. The ovner vas very helpful. We are truly satisfied.
