Dimora al Naviglio Overview

First Impressions

Dimora al Naviglio sits tucked away on a quiet private street in Milan, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. This three-star boutique spot feels more like a stylish apartment building than a traditional hotel — which turns out to be exactly what makes it special. The entrance is understated, but once you’re inside, there’s this immediate sense of being somewhere carefully curated rather than mass-produced.

Location & Neighborhood

The Porta Romana area isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s actually part of the appeal here. You’re about a fifteen-minute tram ride from the Duomo, which sounds far until you realize you’re living like a local in one of Milan’s more authentic neighborhoods. There’s a decent restaurant scene within walking distance — nothing too fancy, just the kind of places where Milanese actually eat dinner. The nearby Navigli canals give the area its character, especially in the evenings when the aperitivo crowd starts gathering.

The Space

What they call rooms here are really more like compact apartments — each one has a small kitchenette, which is brilliant if you want to grab fresh ingredients from the local market and skip the hotel breakfast routine. The design leans modern without being cold, with clean lines and neutral colors that somehow feel warm. Storage space is smarter than you’d expect, and the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in boutique places). The bathrooms are small but functional, with good water pressure that’ll wake you up properly in the morning.

Practical Details

Here’s what I appreciate: they don’t try to be something they’re not. There’s no lobby restaurant or concierge desk, but the staff knows the neighborhood and will point you toward the good stuff. WiFi works reliably throughout the building, and there’s air conditioning that actually keeps things cool during Milan’s sticky summers. Parking isn’t included, but there are spots available nearby for a fee — though honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re here.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.2 rating makes sense once you understand what Dimora al Naviglio is trying to do. It’s not competing with the grand hotels near La Scala — instead, it’s offering something more personal and residential. You know what really works? The way it lets you experience Milan from a local perspective rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble. The kitchenette means you can start your day with proper Italian coffee made exactly how you like it, and the quiet street means you’ll actually get some sleep. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something rather than just booked something.

Reviews of Dimora al Naviglio

  • Warm, yummy food and quiet! Perfect winter vibes – Felicity from Australia – 24 November 2025 (10/10)

Lovely room with a pretty balcony! Easy access from the M1 and very peaceful and quiet. We were kept lovely and warm in the chilly November winter. There was even a towel heater which was so nice!😊 the absolutely best fresh breakfast was made for us to enjoy – like our own little cafe!
Would come back to stay here for sure

What could be improved: The sink drain may have been a little slow to drain but there is literally nothing to fault – lovely Angela looked after us so well!

  • Exceptional – Yulia from Germany – 9 November 2025 (10/10)

Great location with very friendly staff, wonderful breakfast. Very good location next to metro station and parking just for 10 euros/day

What could be improved: Location, staff, owner

  • Convenient to Milan and a clean, comfortable room. – Upscaletimer from United States – 8 November 2025 (10/10)

Very nice room and bathroom with a comfy bed. The breakfast was amazing and Maine, the girl serving it, was so wonderful making us omellettes and cappucinos alongside a very generous offering of pastry, yogurt, fruit and bread. The metro was a very short walk away to take into Milan. The communication via What's App regarding self check-in was detailed and thorough as was the directions from the Metro to the room. We had a great stay and would go again!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Exceptional – Lama from Finland – 29 October 2025 (10/10)

Room, service and host (including staff) was amazing.

  • The host's service and breakfast are both good. – Yang from France – 28 October 2025 (8/10)

Breakfast in the guesthouse is decent.

What could be improved: I don't know if I misunderstood, but I completely failed to notice that this B&B was just one of the rooms, even though it had complete amenities. If I had seen this notice initially, I don't think I would have chosen such a living space.

  • Exceptional – Shmuel from Israel – 26 October 2025 (10/10)

Everything, location, clean, breakfast (thank you Maine), Angela, Italian hospitality at its best!

  • Pretty good. – Adrian from Canada – 15 October 2025 (9/10)

Clean quiet good location breakfast included.

What could be improved: Getting there from the subway the walking pad is pretty dirty garbage bottles cans dog shit not pretty.

  • Exceptional – Erna from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 11 October 2025 (10/10)

The best apartment we’ve stayed in!
The apartment was spotless, and we felt just like at home. The breakfast was excellent, and the hosts were incredibly kind and always there to help. I would recommend this apartment to everyone, and we’ll definitely stay here again the next time we come to Milan. 🫶🏼

  • Superb – Laima from Lithuania – 2 October 2025 (9/10)

Good location, excellent terrace, very good breakfast

  • Excellent Family Base with Great Access to Central Milan – Shmuel from Israel – 29 September 2025 (9/10)

The Rooms: The two rooms we booked were spacious, clean, and well-equipped. They provided both comfort and privacy for everyone in the family, which was essential for a group our size.
The Location (Turro/Gorla): The apartment is in a residential neighborhood that gave us a wonderful taste of local Milanese life. We appreciated being away from the main tourist crowds, which made for a very quiet and peaceful stay. The connectivity to the city was excellent; the nearby metro station made it incredibly easy to reach the Duomo and other central attractions in about 15 minutes. It was the perfect balance of a tranquil base with easy access to everything we wanted to see.
The Breakfast: The included breakfast was fresh, tasty, and offered a wonderful start to our days of exploring the city.
Parking: We arrived with a large rental car, and available parking garage on a parallel street was a significant advantage and a real bonus in a city like Milan.

What could be improved: While perfectly manageable, the room was on the cozier side. This is quite common for city accommodations, but something for larger families to keep in mind when booking.
