Doria Grand Hotel Overview
First Impressions
The Doria Grand Hotel sits right on Viale Andrea Doria, and honestly, the location caught me off guard in the best way possible. You’re basically a five-minute walk from Milano Centrale station — I mean, you can practically hear the trains, but it’s not annoying like you’d expect. The building itself has this classic Milanese facade that blends right into the neighborhood, nothing too flashy, but solid and welcoming.
Getting Around Milan
Here’s what I love about staying near Centrale — you’re not stuck in the touristy center, but you can get anywhere in Milan ridiculously fast. The metro’s right there, and I found myself hopping on Line 2 to reach the Duomo in maybe twelve minutes. Plus, if you’re doing any day trips (Lake Como, anyone?), you’re already at the main train hub. The neighborhood itself is actually pretty authentic — lots of locals, good coffee bars, and none of that tourist markup you get closer to the cathedral.
The Room Experience
My room was on the fourth floor, and while it wasn’t huge, it felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was genuinely comfortable — I’m picky about mattresses, and this one passed the test. What really impressed me was the bathroom renovation; clearly they’ve been updating things because everything felt modern without losing that European hotel character. The air conditioning worked well too, which you definitely appreciate during Milan’s sticky summers.
Daily Essentials
The breakfast setup is pretty straightforward but hits all the marks — decent coffee (this is Italy, after all), fresh pastries, and enough variety to keep you happy. There’s a small restaurant on-site, though I’ll be honest, I mostly used it for quick dinners when I was too tired to venture out. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, and I noticed they remembered my name after the second day, which is a nice touch at a four-star place.
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes this hotel work? It’s unpretentious but reliable. The 8.3 rating makes sense when you experience the place — it’s not trying to be the fanciest option in Milan, but everything functions exactly as it should. The combination of that prime location near Centrale, reasonable rates, and solid service creates this sweet spot where you feel like you’re getting good value. If you want to explore Milan without breaking the bank or dealing with tourist crowds right outside your door, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Size of the room,breakfast. Facilities
What could be improved: No coffee or milk on tea tray in room.Shower hot then cold constantly. No channels on TV in loungeComfort, convenience, a nice welcome and great value near Milano Centrale station. – Patricia from United States – 25 November 2025 (9/10)
Hotel is very close to Milano Centrale which was perfect for getting an early train to the airport the next morning. Hotel staff had to deal with a computer problem when I and others arrived, but they handled things as quickly as possible. The hotel is an older "classic", not modern but very comfortable and nicely maintained. Breakfast in the morning was great. I especially liked the personal note left with some chocolates left in my room — very welcoming!
What could be improved: There is a lot of construction going on in the area so my walk from the train station upon arrival was confusing and a lot longer than it had to be. If hotel had sent some guidance, it would have been much easier.Superb – Delfi from Argentina – 17 November 2025 (9/10)
The cuestomer experience
What could be improved: The room was cold and we couldn’t turn on the heater because the maximum for it was 23 CelsiusVery nice and good location to train station. – Debra from United States – 12 November 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: The temperature could not be adjusted and so the room was very hot.Fantastic location and great value for money. Just a perfect distance from the heart of the city – Frank from Australia – 11 November 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: One of the receptionists wasn't very well informed about basic information regarding the area.Very good – Linda from United States – 5 November 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast.
Big tub.
Location, location!-
What could be improved: Lack of kleenex tissues, washcloth, more tea bags.Doria Grand was a good home base from which to explore Milan and surrounding areas – Robert from Canada – 31 October 2025 (9/10)
Doria Grand is a 10-15 minute walk from Milan Centrale Station. Also close to the subway. We chose it for proximity to excursion pick up points.
The hotel is nicely appointed, clean and comfortable. A solid 4 star.
The breakfast buffet was very good as was dinner in Il Cappricio.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: We were there late October. The A/C was turned off. We found the room too warm even with the window openA satisfying and fondly remembered accommodation – Simon from United States – 29 October 2025 (9/10)
The location was excellent, just a few minutes walk to the train station and a variety of good and affordable restaurants.
For breakfast, the clean and spacious place, the quick-working and friendly staff, and the quality and quantity of the food and beverages were excellent
What could be improved: The underground parking place with an entrance next to the hotel was good, but very narrow, and only one lane for both incoming and outgoing directions. Of the many staff at the front desk, two (who worked on the morning schedule) were helpful but grumpy.
