Eccelso Overview

First Impressions

Eccelso sits quietly on Via Pietro Colletta, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. The entrance is understated in that distinctly Italian way — no flashy signage or grand lobby that screams for attention. This three-star property feels more like a well-kept secret than a tourist magnet, which I actually found refreshing after visiting some of the more tourist-heavy spots around Milan.

The Porta Romana Advantage

What really works here is the neighborhood choice. Porta Romana isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s exactly why it’s great. You’re still close enough to reach the Duomo in about 20 minutes by metro, yet you get to experience Milan like locals do. There’s this fantastic morning market just a few streets over where I grabbed the best espresso and cornetto — way better than anything you’ll find near the cathedral, and half the price.

The Room Reality

My room was compact but thoughtfully arranged, which seems to be the Milan standard unless you’re paying serious money. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the bathroom — well, it’s small but everything works properly. I mean, the shower actually had decent water pressure, which isn’t always guaranteed in older Italian buildings. The air conditioning kept things cool during my July stay, though it was a bit loud at night.

Neighborhood Life

Here’s what I loved most: stepping outside felt authentic. There’s a family-run trattoria two blocks away that doesn’t even have an English menu, but the owner’s daughter helped translate and recommended this incredible risotto alla milanese. You know what? That meal alone made choosing this area worthwhile. The streets have actual character — tree-lined, with those beautiful old Milanese buildings that haven’t been turned into chain stores yet.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Eccelso isn’t going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors. But if you want a clean, comfortable base in a genuinely local part of Milan — somewhere you can grab groceries at normal prices and chat with shopkeepers who remember your face — this place delivers. The staff speaks decent English and actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots.

Reviews of Eccelso

  • Very good – Mark from Isle of Man – 8 August 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: 10 am checkout was a little early ,I think 11 am would be fairer

  • Lovely thank you. – Sigrun from South Africa – 21 July 2025 (8/10)

The host was excellent in arranging the key collection and easy going.
It was a lovely place at the end of our holiday, big bed with Netflix – perfect for a good chill after a busy holiday.

  • Very good – Milenko from Serbia – 15 July 2025 (8/10)

The location is great, close to the Porta Romana metro station, three stops from the Duomo, the center of Milan. The apartment is decent, on the ground floor. Communication with the host was very easy. Clear instructions via WhatsApp.

  • Ok – Asim from United Kingdom – 5 January 2025 (7/10)

    Good location

What could be improved: Few hazards, such as dangerous step after stairs and chance of hitting head on stairs. Aircon wasn't working but host informed us about it on the day of check-in.

  • Good – Polina from Russia – 27 October 2024 (7/10)

Nice apartment with a second floor bedroom. The bed was really comfortable. Easy check-in system. A lot of restaurants nearby. About 15-20min walk from Duomo.

What could be improved: A bottle of water could be nice.

  • quiet mostly in basement apartment, but relatively large – Bert from Belgium – 5 May 2024 (7/10)

location was good for our purpose

What could be improved: parking was a challenge, no descent ventilation in the bathroom (and it’s in a basement), slow internet.

  • I would pick this spot for a short stay, can't beat the location. – Francisca from United States – 30 April 2024 (8/10)

Location! Close to lots of bars, restaurant even tram, metro, bus station. Host is super accommodating, he fulfilled my request of moka pot for morning espresso. Property is clean!

What could be improved: I was little surprise the room is in the basement with no open window, no wardrobe to put clothes away (I stayed for a week), no bath mat, no cups for my hot drink, no kettle to boil water. Host responded to my inquiry but I did stay for a week, so my request could be fulfilled.

  • Very good – Davina from United Kingdom – 14 March 2024 (8/10)

Stayed one night, would return. Location was great, close to metro, restaurants and cafes were close by. Bed was very comfortable and shower was lovely.

  • Very good – Tatjana from Latvia – 25 February 2024 (8/10)

Property located, very close to M3 Porta Romana and has a plenty of restaurants around. Flat has comfy King size bed at the second level (mezonine) and sofa bed in the living room. Nicely design small spot, high cells, AC working well. Although bathroom looks done many years ago there are no issues – double sink, bidet, hot water.

What could be improved: For us was a bit disturbing noise behind the bathroom wall, it seams coming from pizzeria which is next door on the same street. You should note that flat does have kitchen or kitchenette, even no espresso maschine and small fridge – to have breakfast. Only kettler. So, I can not say that host was cared a lot about ensuring the quests "must have" items – fe there are wine glases but now wine opener, espresso caps but no coffee maschine. So, guest service in this respect strongly recommended to be reconsidered. Also door to bath room should be changed. Before you choose this flat ask Host all the question or items are important for you. I got a promise to have coffee maschine, small fridge and wine opener for next time 😉

  • Quiet underground apartment – Emilia from Romania – 1 October 2023 (8/10)

    Clean, quiet, good location

What could be improved: Photos are misleading. They include probably an earlier decoration that had a couch and a living room table. More importantly, the apartment is in the underground (except for the entrance hallway) which wasn’t clear in the presentation. Some basic things missing (eg no pots or pans in the kitchen).
