There’s this fantastic aperitivo spot called Bar Basso just around the corner (they invented the Negroni Sbagliato, by the way), and the morning market on Via Sarpi brings the whole neighborhood to life. The metro connection at Garibaldi is super easy — you’ll be at the Duomo in fifteen minutes.

The Room Experience

The rooms at this four-star place surprised me with their thoughtful design. Everything feels intentionally chosen rather than ordered from a hotel catalog — Italian marble in the bathrooms, these gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, and beds that are actually comfortable (not always a given in European hotels, let’s be honest). The kitchenette setup in some rooms is perfect if you grab fresh ingredients from that morning market I mentioned.

Dining & Amenities

The breakfast situation is where Hotel Sunflower really shows its personality. Instead of a massive buffet, they serve this curated selection of local pastries, fresh fruit, and proper Italian coffee at small tables that encourage conversation with other travelers. The rooftop terrace doesn’t have a full restaurant, but they do evening wine service up there with views toward the Bosco Verticale towers. There’s also a compact wellness area with a sauna that’s perfect after walking around the city all day.

What sets this place apart is how it captures Milan’s current energy without feeling touristy. The staff knows the neighborhood inside out — they’ll send you to family-run trattorias that locals actually frequent, or help you find those hidden vintage shops that make Isola special.
