First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Charly, you know immediately this isn’t your typical chain hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. The lobby has this understated charm that feels more like a well-designed apartment building than a hotel, which actually sets the tone perfectly for what you’ll find upstairs. It’s a three-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about Via Settala — you’re in the Stazione Centrale area, which means you’re about a 10-minute walk from Milano Centrale station. That might not sound glamorous, but it’s actually brilliant for travelers. You can catch trains to anywhere in Italy, the Metro’s right there, and there are tons of restaurants and shops that locals actually use. Milan‘s city center is just a quick Metro ride away, but you’re staying in a neighborhood that feels real, not touristy.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how some small spaces feel cramped? This wasn’t that. Everything had its place, the bed was comfortable (which honestly matters more than fancy marble bathrooms), and the windows actually opened, which is rarer than you’d think in city hotels. The bathroom was modern and clean, though not huge, but again — it worked perfectly fine.

Neighborhood Dining

You’ll find yourself eating better around Hotel Charly than you might expect. There’s this little restaurant just two blocks away that serves incredible risotto (locals were lining up, always a good sign), and the morning cornetto from the café across the street became part of my daily routine. The area has that authentic Milan vibe where people are actually going about their lives, not just posing for Instagram photos.

Look, Hotel Charly won’t wow you with marble lobbies or rooftop pools, but it nails the basics while keeping things genuine. The staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, the 8.6 rating makes complete sense when you experience how smoothly everything runs, and you’ll sleep well knowing you found a solid place that won’t break the budget. It’s the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you discovered something rather than just booked something online.

  The hotel was located about 10-15 minutes walk from Milano Centrale station. The moment we arrived in the hotel, we felt secured because the property was gated. Our room was updated, modern, and clean. They have a small elevator for luggages just in case you are assigned to the 2nd or even 3rd floor. They served good breakfast!

  It was a great location for the central station so easy to get to. It was also walkable to the Duomo (40 mins) though the metro was very close if you didnt want to walk.

  Great location, a few minutes walk to M1 metro into centre. 10 min walk to central train station.
  Friendly staff, clean room with amazing power shower (and we were on the 2nd floor). Comfortable beds. Mini fridge in room
  
  What could be improved: Would've liked a kettle and mugs, tea/coffee. But can grab delicious coffees at nearby cafés.
  Breakfast didn't have a massive choice, but enough to start off the day. Breakfast area quite cramped, but can sit in garden in warmer months.
