Honestly, when I first walked into Hotel Folen, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place right above Milano Centrale station. But you know what? Sometimes being on the fifth floor of a busy building actually works in your favor. The elevator ride up gives you this anticipation, and then you step into a surprisingly quiet, well-maintained space that feels completely removed from the chaos below.

Location Reality

Look, staying right at Stazione Centrale isn’t glamorous, but it’s incredibly practical. You’re literally steps from trains to anywhere in Europe, the metro lines, and those airport shuttles that run every twenty minutes. I mean, Milan‘s city center is just two metro stops away, so you can be at the Duomo in fifteen minutes. The neighborhood has that authentic working-Milan vibe — lots of little bars where locals grab their morning coffee, and surprisingly good pizza places that tourists never find.

The Room Experience

My room was smaller than I expected but cleverly designed. The soundproofing actually impressed me — I could barely hear the train station noise that I was dreading. The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom, while compact, had everything I needed including a decent shower with good water pressure. The air conditioning worked well during my July visit, which honestly saved the whole experience since Italian summers can be brutal.

Practical Perks

What I really appreciated was how the staff handled the early check-in situation — they stored my luggage without any fuss and gave me a local map with actual recommendations, not just tourist traps. There’s no restaurant on-site, but they pointed me toward this little trattoria around the corner that became my go-to spot. The Wi-Fi worked consistently throughout my stay, and the front desk always had someone who spoke decent English.

  Great location, rooms are excellent for the price I paid. I read others complaining about noise, it's true that the noise comes into the rooms. But this is a norm in Italy unless you go to the big 5 star hotels

  The property was directly across from the Milan Central Train station. We caught the train to the airport the next morning which made it very convenient. There is a great Chinese Restaurant just next door to the entrance. Staff were friendly and helpful.

  A big thank you to super helpful & friendly host named Erica, Kelvin & the lady/young man at breakfast. Excellent location super convenient for train & airport coach just opposite/outside the hotel. Mercato/Food court just opposite the hotel.

  Nice place and friendly staff. But seemed a bit incompetent in terms of technology. I was trying to get help with turning on the heating in the room but the folks at the desk couldn't tell me.
  
  What could be improved: I had to contact my airline office and couldn't place a call from my device so they agreed to call them for me, and translated the menu options from Italian. Ultimately I flew home as scheduled but I am grateful for the willingness to help. Thanks guys ❤️
