Hotel Gamma sits on a fairly quiet street in Milan’s Città Studi district, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t — just a solid three-star place that gets the basics right. The building has that understated Italian elegance you find in neighborhoods where locals actually live, rather than the touristy center.

The Neighborhood Feel

You know what I really appreciated? The location puts you in a real slice of Milan life. Città Studi is where university students and young professionals hang out, so there’s this authentic energy around Via Valvassori Peroni. There’s a great little market just a few blocks away, and the metro connection (Lambrate station) gets you into the heart of the city in about twenty minutes. I mean, you’re not walking to the Duomo, but you’re also not paying Duomo prices.

The Room Experience

My room was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly. The bed was comfortable enough, and I actually slept well despite being on a busier street. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, which seems to be the Italian way of making small spaces feel thoughtful rather than cramped. Air conditioning worked fine during my July stay, which honestly was my biggest concern.

Practical Details

The staff speaks decent English and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and recommendations. There’s a small restaurant area for breakfast — nothing elaborate, but the coffee is proper Italian coffee, and they had fresh pastries. Parking can be arranged, though like everywhere in Milan, it’s not exactly cheap. The front desk helped me figure out the best spots for street parking when I didn’t want to pay the hotel rate.

  It is actually very good for an Italian 3-star hotel. Based on our past experiences in Italy, 3-star hotels can be quite hit or miss, so we were somewhat expecting a rather crapy stay – but this one turned out to be surprisingly comfortable, clean, and with great service. We were really pleased overall.
  
  The bed deserves a special mention: both the mattress and the pillows were excellent. I’ve rarely encountered pillows this good even in 4- and 5-star hotels.
  
  What could be improved: The soundproofing could be much better – you can hear any loud noise from other rooms. Breakfast was OK, but the options were limited and not great quality, especially on the savoury side. The sweets were good, though.
  
  The price was way too high, but that’s not entirely the hotel’s fault – accommodation prices in Milan are stupidly high across the board.

  I loved that the room was air conditioned as I went in the summer. The room was kept at a constant 22 degrees throughout which was great for sleeping. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The receptionists were friendly and when leaving for the airport they made me an espresso before I took my taxi along with a croissant.
  
  What could be improved: The breakfast was a bit lacking, but it was sufficient and the bathroom was small, especially the shower.
