Hotel Montecarlo Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Montecarlo on Via Vallazze, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be flashy — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in the Città Studi neighborhood, which I actually prefer to the tourist-heavy center of Milan. The entrance is modest but welcoming, with that understated Italian elegance that doesn’t need to shout about itself.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Città Studi — you’re living like a local, not a tourist. The area buzzes with university students and young professionals, so there’s real energy without the chaos. You’ve got the Lambrate train station about ten minutes away, which means you can reach the Duomo in roughly 15 minutes when you want that postcard Milan experience. But honestly, some of my best meals happened at the neighborhood trattorias within walking distance of the hotel.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — think modern Italian efficiency rather than ornate decoration. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the air conditioning actually worked (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in European hotels). The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with good water pressure and proper lighting. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything you need is there and it works.
Practical Perks
What really impressed me was the staff’s local knowledge — they gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t in any guidebook I’d seen. The front desk operates around the clock, which saved me when I had a late flight change. There’s also parking available, though honestly, in this part of Milan you’re better off using public transport anyway. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which matters when you’re trying to navigate a new city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Montecarlo isn’t going to blow you away with marble lobbies or rooftop pools. But it delivers exactly what a smart traveler wants — a comfortable base in a genuine Milan neighborhood, run by people who actually care about your stay. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you consider the value proposition. You’re getting reliable comfort, helpful service, and a location that lets you experience Milan beyond the obvious tourist spots, all without breaking the bank.
To book a hotel in Milan during opera season, visitors plan ahead to balance La Scala performances with quiet Navigli canal strolls.

Reviews of Hotel Montecarlo
very nice stay in a friendly and pleasant B&B/ hotel – Horatiu from Brazil – 16 September 2025 (9/10)
Very nice staff, excellent beds, very good shower and wifi. The room was spacious and very tall.
If is a family-run B&B, in a location a bit away from the interesting points, but maybe 15 minutes from a subway stop
(which is 2 stops from the central station and 5 from the Duomo), and next to a tree-lined avenue, quiet and refreshing. The breakfast was good, though not very complex.
What could be improved: Not much to say.Nice and affordable hotel in Milan. – Loïs from Czech Republic – 11 August 2025 (9/10)
Very nice hotel just outside of the center of Milan (we chose it because of the proximity to the central station). Friendly staff, clean rooms and a comfortable bed. We arrived an hour before check in time, but they let us into the room already, which was very much appreciated because it was 35 degrees outside and in the room we had AC. We could also keep our luggage there for a couple more hours after check out for a small fee. Satisfied with the price-quality – I would recommend this place.
Superb – Peter from Slovakia – 13 June 2025 (9/10)
Location close to university.
Very nice and helpful staff. Working and quiet A/C.
Good bed and acoustical sealing windows.
What could be improved: Breakfast eggs could do better 😁Superb – Igor from Israel – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
The hotel offers good value for money you pay. Of course it's not a luxury hotel, but we paid much less and received much more compare to other same class hotels. Breakfasts were included in our price when other same class hotels in the same area charge 1.5x just for a room. Room has a good soundproofing. Bed is comfy. Cleaning is good. Coffee is very tasty. I don't know how should I drink capsules coffee now, after trying this one. There was electric kettle in the room. The hotel has 24-hours front desk which is not mentioned on Booking.com. Location is good. Quiet area, a few metro stations to the center. Walking distance to Central train station. Supermarket is few steps away. I can recommend this hotel if you look for a good value for money. I also suggest the hotel to update the photos on Booking, because some of them look darker and worse than in reality and can create a wrong impression.
What could be improved: For those who is looking for a great variety of food, you won't find it here. Breakfast will be the same every day.Superb – Fahimul from Bangladesh – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

Superb – Enache from Romania – 21 August 2024 (9/10)
Location and the view (garden with trees)
What could be improved: Same food at breakfast, every day.
Can't stop the AC (is depending to the reception)Very good – Eliran from Israel – 22 July 2024 (8/10)
Very nice staff, quite area, nearby the metro, very good aircondition
What could be improved: Poor breakfast, floor wasn't clear, tiny window in the roomEnjoyable stay – Cheng from Malaysia – 14 June 2024 (9/10)
I truly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Montecarlo. The room was spacious. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Two metro train stations are within 10 minutes walking distance. There are many restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Highly recommended!
Comfy recommend hotel in Milan – Jacques from United Kingdom – 16 February 2024 (8/10)
Comfy bed; good shower & bathroom facilities included bidet, plenty of towels and heated towel rail; very clean: easy to get metro into the centre;safe & fridge both in room; very helpful friendly staff; great coffee to order at breakfast.
What could be improved: Breakfast somewhat sparse and limited; lift extremely slow; no kettle supplied but ok to ask for one;Good – Margaritha from South Africa – 1 February 2024 (7/10)
What could be improved: There was alot of noise the evening late at night on the top floor and breakfast was just average but staff was very helpful and friendly.
