Hotel Five Overview
First Impressions
Hotel Five sits on a corner that feels refreshingly removed from Milan’s tourist chaos, yet you’re still just a short Metro ride from the Duomo. The building itself has that understated Italian charm — nothing flashy, but there’s something solid and welcoming about the entrance on Corso Lodi. I actually walked past it twice the first time because it blends so naturally into the neighborhood, which honestly turned out to be part of its appeal.
The Neighborhood Feel
This corner of Milan near Porta Romana has become one of my favorite discoveries. You’ve got authentic trattorias within walking distance where locals actually eat, plus the Navigli canals are close enough for evening aperitivos without the midday crowds. The area feels lived-in rather than touristy — I mean, there’s a proper Italian grocery store right down the street where you can grab fresh pasta or a decent bottle of wine for your room.
What You’re Actually Getting
This three-star place doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, which I found refreshing. The rooms are clean and well-maintained with that minimalist European style that actually works — think IKEA but with better mattresses. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, and they’ll help you figure out the Metro system without making you feel like an idiot. There’s no fancy restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Milan — why would you want to eat hotel food anyway?
Getting Around
The Porta Romana Metro station is maybe a seven-minute walk, which connects you to pretty much everywhere you’d want to go. What I really appreciated was how easy it became to slip back here after long days of sightseeing — the neighborhood gets quiet in the evenings, so you can actually decompress. Plus, there’s decent parking nearby if you’re brave enough to drive in Milan (though I’d recommend against it).
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Five works because it gets the basics right without any unnecessary fuss. The beds are comfortable, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and you’re not paying tourist-trap prices for a location that’s still well-connected. I’ve stayed in fancier places in Milan that left me more frustrated than this straightforward spot. Sometimes you just want a clean, quiet place to sleep that doesn’t blow your budget — and that’s exactly what you get here.
To book hotel in Milan for fashion week elegance, travelers reserve early to pair Duomo sunrise visits with evening aperitivo rituals.

A great hotel at a perfect location, away from tourist crowds but still just 10 min to Duomo and about 20 min to Central train station by metro. Metro station is right behind the corner.
There are also some supermarkets, restaurants and bars around.
Need to mention their breakfasts which I enjoyed a lot. A good variety of options and everything tastes just perfect.
