Hotel San Guido Overview
First Impressions
Hotel San Guido sits right in the heart of Milan’s Porta Nuova district, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you’re planning to explore the city properly. This three-star place has that understated Italian charm — you know, nothing flashy, but everything feels intentional and well-thought-out. The building itself blends seamlessly into the neighborhood’s mix of modern developments and classic Milanese architecture.
Location & Getting Around
What I really appreciate about staying here is how connected you are to everything. You’re literally steps away from Garibaldi station, which means you can hop on the metro and be at the Duomo in about ten minutes. But here’s what most travelers don’t realize — this area has become Milan’s unofficial business district, so there’s this interesting energy during the day with all the office workers, then it gets quieter in the evenings. The Porta Nuova towers are right there, and if you walk maybe five minutes, you’ll hit Corso Como with all its bars and late-night spots.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — typical for Milan, really, where space is at a premium. Everything you need is there: decent Wi-Fi, air conditioning that actually works (crucial in summer), and a bathroom that’s been recently updated. The beds are comfortable enough, though if you’re used to American hotel pillows, these might feel a bit firm. I mean, it’s not going to blow you away, but it’s clean, functional, and the housekeeping is consistently good.
Dining & Daily Life
There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves breakfast and light meals, though I’ll be honest — you’re in Milan, so you’ll probably want to explore the neighborhood for dinner. The morning spread is solid Italian fare: decent coffee (this is Italy, after all), fresh pastries, and the usual continental options. What’s nice is that the staff seems to know the regulars, and they’ll point you toward good local spots if you ask.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, Hotel San Guido isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s actually refreshing. It’s a straightforward, well-run place that gets the basics right — clean rooms, helpful staff, and that prime location near Garibaldi. The parking situation is typical for central Milan (meaning expensive and limited), so I’d recommend using public transport anyway. For the price point, especially considering where you are in the city, it offers solid value. You’re paying for the location and reliability, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to make the most of your time in Milan.
Milan hotels keep travelers close to Gothic spires, fashion boutiques, and metro lines to Renaissance masterpieces.

Reviews of Hotel San Guido
Perfect for a weekend away on a modest budget – James from United Kingdom – 3 December 2025 (9/10)
Clean rooms and welcoming staff. Great location and solid breakfast options. What more do you need?
What could be improved: –Charming vintage hotel near Garibaldi Station, friendly staff, good value for money. – Dmitrii from Uzbekistan – 2 November 2025 (8/10)
I had a pleasant stay at Hotel San Guido in Milan. Although the hotel is old, that’s exactly what gives it its special charm – it feels like stepping back into the 1960s. The vintage furniture and decor create a nostalgic atmosphere, and everything is clean and well maintained.
The location is very convenient – just a 5-minute walk from Milano Porta Garibaldi Station, which makes it easy to get around the city. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was not very diverse but sufficient to start the day.
Overall, the hotel offers good value for money – a cozy place with personality, perfect for those who appreciate classic style and a bit of old-world Milanese charm.
What could be improved: Limited breakfast varietyVery good – Heidi from United Kingdom – 18 October 2025 (8/10)
Easy to get to, near Chinatown and a tram stop is right outside of the hotel. We hadn't a very nice stay and the staff were lovely.
What could be improved: I would have liked an iron and ironing board, as well as a phone charger to use in the room.Great place, fab location! 🙂 – Simon from United Kingdom – 18 October 2025 (9/10)
Staff were levelly and very helpful, with staff available 24-7. The location was brilliant, with a tram stop right outside. Not far from a Metro stop too. Nice breakfast included too!
What could be improved: More electrical sockets would have been good as we needed power near the bed, but we managed ok.Superb – Kristina from North Macedonia – 17 October 2025 (9/10)
Stuff very polite, helpful, owner too, great hospitality, very convenient location since tram 2, 4 are standing in front of the hotel, so easy to go to the city center, nice spacious room with sound proof windows. Price was very convenient. If I go back to Milan, I will book here again for sure.
Good – Debbi from Australia – 9 October 2025 (7/10)
Close to train station and rooms were spacious. Bed was comfortable and hotel had a lift.
What could be improved: Not many restaurants close by.Hotel San Guido was okay but would choose a different a hotel more centrally located next visit! – Karen from United States – 8 October 2025 (8/10)
Sweet corner room and quiet! We had a twin room with plenty of space for luggage, etc. The breakfast was lovely with the best cappuccino! Also close to the Cemetary Monumental which should not be missed!
What could be improved: The location…too far from the center of the city. Although on the tram line, evidently there was construction in Milan so the tram just went in a circle, never coming close to the Duomo or Navigli. And FYI, the hotel is in Chinatown 🤷♀️Very pleasant, quiet and convenient. – Nicola from Australia – 8 October 2025 (7/10)
Loved the decor in reception. Everything was arranged efficiently and my room was super comfy and had everything I needed. The location was perfect being a short walk to Porto Milano Garibaldi. There was someone at reception with a breakfast bag for me to take on my trip when I left at 5 am to catch a train.
Lovely old fashioned hotel with personal service in a great location – Lynne from United Kingdom – 7 October 2025 (9/10)
Old fashioned hotel in the best sense. Good service, lovely rooms, some with balconies. Clean, comfortable and in a great location for Porto Garibaldi. Several trams stop nearby. Also close to China Town and some good bars and restaurants- notably the fabulous Bolo Bolo. Breakfast isn’t great. Much better to have it in a local bar.
What could be improved: Breakfast!Superb – Giankarlo from United States – 7 October 2025 (9/10)
The breakfast was really good and the 3 lady's that makes them are incredible.
What could be improved: The wifi does not reach the room 41. We could not use it.
