I-Host Apartment – Maffei 20 Overview
First Impressions
I-Host Apartment – Maffei 20 caught my attention the moment I stepped inside — it’s one of those places that feels more like staying at a stylish friend’s place than a typical hotel. The building sits on a quiet residential street in Milan, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you didn’t know what you were looking for. But that’s part of its charm, really.
The Space
What struck me most was how they’ve managed to create this four-star experience in what’s essentially an apartment setting. The room I stayed in had this perfect blend of modern Italian design and actual livability — you know, like someone actually thought about how you’d use the space. The kitchen is fully equipped (I mean really equipped, not just a mini-fridge and hope), and there’s enough counter space to actually prepare a decent meal if you’re tired of eating out every night.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what most travel sites won’t tell you about Via Andrea Maffei — it’s in Porta Romana, which locals consider one of the most authentic areas left in central Milan. You’re about a 15-minute walk to Porta Romana metro station, and from there it’s just two stops to the Duomo. But honestly, I found myself walking everywhere because the neighborhood itself is so pleasant to explore.
The area around the apartment has this lived-in feel that’s getting harder to find in Milan’s center. There’s a fantastic local market on Saturdays just a few blocks away, and some genuinely good neighborhood spots for aperitivo that haven’t been discovered by the tourist crowd yet. I stumbled across this little osteria around the corner that’s been family-run for decades — the kind of place you’d never find without staying in the area.
What Sets It Apart
The thing about I-Host is they’ve figured out that business travelers and longer-stay visitors want different things than typical hotel guests. The Wi-Fi actually works properly for video calls, there’s proper lighting for working, and — this might sound minor but it’s huge — they provide decent hangers in the closet. You know how most places give you those useless clip hangers? Not here.
The building itself has character without being stuffy. Original terrazzo floors, high ceilings, but with updated everything else. The shower pressure is excellent (always a gamble in older Italian buildings), and the air conditioning actually keeps the place comfortable during Milan’s sticky summers.
Why It Works
What I appreciated most was the independence factor — you get your keys, settle in, and live like a temporary Milanese resident rather than a tourist passing through. The staff is responsive when you need them but doesn’t hover, which suits the apartment-style setup perfectly. For anyone staying more than a couple nights or traveling for business, this setup makes so much more sense than a traditional hotel room.
The 9-point rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with marble lobbies — it’s just thoughtfully done, genuinely comfortable, and in a part of Milan that feels real. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Apartments in Milan suit families with balcony windows, full kitchens, and sunset strolls through Sempione Park gardens.

Reviews of I-Host Apartment – Maffei 20
Exceptional – Sonia from Spain – 3 December 2025 (10/10)
a decent apartment to live in outside the ZTL zone for staying in Milan – Hartono from Indonesia – 28 November 2025 (9/10)
The location of the property is close to the daily store. One bedroom, and 2 sofa bed is enough for 4 guest to stay.
What could be improved: The window of the bathroom is big and open widely. It's easy for someone from the outside seeing into the bathroom. The capacity of the water heather is too small, it's not enough for 4 guest for taking a bath in sequence. It has to wait quite sometimes to get the hot water.
Excellent – Nefelie from Greece – 28 October 2025 (9/10)
I was looking forward to find an apartment with a lot of space as we were 5 people. This one is one of the best choices for the space, the location and the facilites (in & out)! A supermarket is so close as well as the tram and metro station. I’m so satisfied for everything!
What could be improved: I think that a little more toilet paper and a dish washer are necessary.O locatie foarte buna – Maria from Romania – 20 October 2025 (10/10)
Bonito apartamento – Elena from Spain – 2 October 2025 (10/10)
Éramos 6 adultas y 3 adolescentes , tiene todo lo necesario para que la estancia sea muy agradable
