JOIVY Contemporary apartments in historical Giambellino-Lorenteggio Overview

First Impressions

JOIVY Contemporary apartments in historical Giambellino-Lorenteggio is one of those places that catches you off guard — in a good way. You’re expecting maybe some basic serviced apartments, but what you get is this really thoughtful blend of modern comfort tucked into one of Milan‘s most authentic neighborhoods. The building itself tells a story, and honestly, I love how they’ve managed to keep that historical character while making everything feel fresh and livable.

The Neighborhood Reality

Here’s what I actually appreciate about Giambellino-Lorenteggio — it’s real Milan, not tourist Milan. You know those mornings when you step outside and there’s this genuine neighborhood energy? Kids heading to school, locals grabbing their morning coffee, the kind of authentic Italian life you don’t find near the Duomo. The area has this working-class charm that’s become increasingly rare in major European cities, and you’re still well-connected to the center by metro.

The Living Space

Each apartment feels like someone actually lives there, which I mean in the best possible way. The contemporary design doesn’t try too hard — clean lines, functional layouts, and that European approach to maximizing space without making it feel cramped. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation), so you can actually cook if you want to embrace the local market culture.

What Makes It Work

This three-star setup gets the basics really right. The beds are comfortable, the Wi-Fi actually works reliably, and there’s this sense that they’ve thought about what travelers need versus what hotels think they want. I found myself using the local cafés and trattorias more than I might elsewhere — partly because the neighborhood invites it, but also because the apartment setup makes you feel less like a tourist passing through.

Why Guests Love It

Look, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you need a concierge and daily housekeeping. But if you want to experience Milan like someone who actually lives there, while still having a comfortable base with modern amenities, this place delivers. The 7.4 rating reflects exactly what it is — solid, authentic, and unpretentious. Plus, you’re saving money that you can spend on better food and experiences, which honestly seems like the smarter play in a city like Milan.

Locals suggest to book apartments in Milan around Porta Romana for vintage markets, trattoria spots, and tree-lined avenues.

Reviews of JOIVY Contemporary apartments in historical Giambellino-Lorenteggio

  • Great – Proshkova from Switzerland – 9 November 2025 (8/10)

The location, the apartment, the hygiene were exceptional!!!

What could be improved: The neighbors were too loud both of the nights

  • Good facilities and good location but failed in some aspects – Ana from Portugal – 5 September 2025 (7/10)

    The location and the comfort

What could be improved: Dirty kitchen utensils, one of the room didn’t have the blinds working

  • Ok but could be easily I improved – Andrea from Italy – 6 July 2025 (7/10)

Location is perfect, very well connected to metro l, trams and buses. Close walk to supermarkets, restaurants and bars

What could be improved: The apartment isn't well advertised. It should be made aware that JOIVY has more than one apartment in this location. When booking the apartment it should be made clear which one you are booking so you are not only looking at the photos. I was under the impression I would have a balcony but this is not the case. The air conditioner was hardly working which is essential for summer in Milan. The hair dryer was a joke needs to be trashed. With very little this apartment could be perfect but unfortunately there isn't alot of effort made. The kitchen is equipped but offers nothing in the way of basic essentials (tea, coffee, acqua, oil, sugar salt/pepper) when traveling for work and for short periods it's extremely frustrating that not even these essentials can be offered. It can change the experience from great to mehhh. Doesn't take alot to leave a coffee a day for the amount of days especially with the average price per night. As far as decorations there is still empty IKEA photo frames hanging on the wall with the measurement in the price of the frame…. I mean come on… Little things

  • to die for comfortable beds! lovely and clean, peaceful. Just needed hot water for a shower – Elizabeth from Canada – 2 May 2025 (6/10)

it was a little tricky to figure out the key but we got it in the end. Very grateful you have someone we can call, and they answered immediately. Very secure and easy to come and go once you know how!

What could be improved: there was no hot water. I called to ask about it. The guy on the phone asked me to look for a hot water tank. I could not find it/. I shceudled a technician to come over but since we were only saying one night – we showered the morning of check-out – it was a futile effort. We had checked out by the time the technician arrived. Also the bathroom sink wouldn't drain and smelled funny.

  • Very nice stay in this appartment. – Coralie from United Kingdom – 5 January 2025 (8/10)

Appartments were clean, a good size, full kitchen, big bedrooms and modern. About 20min by metro to Duomo so very practical if you want to go explore the center of Milan.

What could be improved: Few things were not working like a dangerous hairdryer, plugs, and blinds.

  • Very good – Ольга from Russia – 18 October 2024 (8/10)

    Location is good and comfy.

  • Not bad – Hiba from Egypt – 4 October 2024 (6/10)

    Not ok

What could be improved: Not bad

  • Partly satisfactory- comfortable for sleeping and kitchen, but annoying deficiencies – Kenneth from United States – 3 September 2024 (6/10)

    Not applicable

What could be improved: The maintenance in the apartment was poor. No working television, air conditioning in kitchen, clocks, washing machine, bathroom sink. We ran out of toilet paper and had to buy it at a store. Also upon arrival, the email didn’t inform us of which apartment number was ours, so we had to call to find out. Procedure was not explained in advance. Our phone calls to try to resolve the apartment deficiencies resulted in ZERO action by the management.

  • Very good – Majed from Saudi Arabia – 15 August 2024 (8/10)

Modern flat and big space good for families

  • Great value if a bit far from the city center. – Francois from South Africa – 20 July 2024 (8/10)

Great location if you need to be close to San Siro. Otherwise its a bit out of the way of everything. There is a tram around the corner though that takes you straight to the Duomo.

What could be improved: It could have been a bit cleaner. It was fine re beds, but there was soap caked in the shower trays etc.
