Loft di Design Porta Romana/Corso Lodi Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Loft di Design Porta Romana/Corso Lodi, you honestly wouldn’t expect much from the street — it’s a pretty typical residential block in Milan. But step inside and you’ll find yourself in what feels like a friend’s incredibly stylish apartment rather than a traditional hotel. The design-forward approach is immediately obvious, with clean lines and that effortlessly cool Italian aesthetic that somehow looks both minimal and warm at the same time.

The Space

Each room here is actually more like a studio loft, which explains the name. The ceilings are higher than you’d expect, and there’s this industrial-chic vibe with exposed elements that feels authentic rather than trying too hard. What I really appreciated was the kitchenette setup — not huge, but functional enough that you can grab groceries from the nearby Esselunga and actually cook a meal if you want to save some euros. The beds are comfortable enough, though the three-star rating shows in details like towel thickness and bathroom fixtures.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s where this place really shines — the Porta Romana area is having a moment right now. You’re close enough to the Navigli canals for evening aperitivo walks, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you’ll actually hear locals speaking Italian on the streets. The Porta Romana metro stop is maybe a seven-minute walk, which puts you in the Duomo area in about fifteen minutes. Plus, there are some genuinely good neighborhood trattorias within a couple blocks that most visitors never discover.

Practical Considerations

I’ll be honest — this isn’t the place if you need daily housekeeping or a concierge to book your dinner reservations. The service is friendly but minimal, which keeps costs down and fits the independent loft concept. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Milan — that’s kind of the point. The neighborhood has everything from corner bakeries for morning cornetti to late-night pizza al taglio spots.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is that it feels like you’re actually living in Milan for a few days rather than just visiting. The design touches are thoughtful without being pretentious, and the location gives you that authentic neighborhood experience while keeping the city center totally accessible. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities, but if you want something with character that won’t destroy your budget — and you appreciate good design — this loft concept really works.

Reviews of Loft di Design Porta Romana/Corso Lodi

  • Milano in autunno – Susi from Italy – 20 October 2025 (9/10)

    Posizione e dintorni

What could be improved: Alcune dotazioni del bagno non in perfette condizioni. Suggerisco maggior attenzione alle manutenzioni.

  • Bad – Shahem from Australia – 2 August 2025 (1/10)

What could be improved: Toilets were not clean and there were hair clippings everywhere around the sink.
Pillows were yellow and there was no blanket on the bed

  • I feel deceived , this stay was a total nightmare. – Jacob from Spain – 17 March 2025 (1/10)

I loved the patio and the location of the property.

What could be improved: my recent stay in Milan (March 14-17) was absolutely terrible. Before my arrival, I had requested an early check-in, and since I was not informed otherwise, I assumed it was approved. However, only after landing in Milan, I received a message saying that check-in would not be possible before 3:00 PM. This last-minute notice was frustrating, as I could have planned accordingly had I been informed in advance. On top of that, even at 3:00 PM, I had to wait for them to arrive, and only at 3:15 PM was I finally met at the entrance to the property. The biggest issue was the entrance key to the building, which barely worked. Every time I tried to enter, I had to struggle for minutes just to unlock the door—an incredibly frustrating experience. But what completely ruined my trip was the bed. The mattress was completely sunken, offering no support at all. As a result, I suffered from severe back pain the entire time. Instead of getting rest and relaxation as planned, I spent three nights in pain and exhaustion. It ruined my entire stay. On top of that, the apartment had a major ant infestation. I tried to deal with them myself, but there were too many, and they kept coming back. And if that wasn’t enough, the place was in awful condition: • Mold on the walls and cobwebs everywhere. • Thick dust all over, clearly showing it hadn’t been properly cleaned. • The sofa was half-broken and uncomfortable to sit on. • The jacuzzi didn’t work, and some of the lights were out. I have video evidence of everything. The price I paid was completely unreasonable for this horrible experience.

  • All in all, very good accomodation, quite bis space and worth every cent of it. BTW, the italian garden when entering th – Dolidze from Georgia – 26 December 2024 (8/10)

I liked location so much, it is just 5 minute walk from M3 metro line and very comfortable to access everything, Lidl is also very close.

What could be improved: There was a disturbing noise coming from the heating that was very problematic at night when we were home and were trying to sleep.

  • Spacious and Comfy Home – Dm from United States – 11 October 2024 (8/10)

The busy street noise is not heard once you get inside the building. It was spacious for the two of us. Liked having the two bathrooms. Counter space for cooking. Great walking distance to M3 station.

What could be improved: The cookware and no storage container.

  • It is recommended. – Spyros from Greece – 3 October 2024 (7/10)

The area is safe, transport and markets are nearby. Road without traffic.

What could be improved: Kitchen cooking utensils are not accepted. invest in them.
No batteries in all remote controls.

  • This apartment is like a time capsule, full of vintage items. It has its own appeal. – Sorin from Romania – 26 September 2024 (8/10)

    – big open space, 2 bathrooms, well equipped
    – close to a metro station, less than 5 minutes away
    – very quiet location, even if it’s close to the street
    – self check in

  • Very good – Nevilin from Bulgaria – 12 September 2024 (8/10)

The apartment was at a very good location. The metro is 5 minutes walking. There was self-check availability. Also two bathrooms available at both levels. Kitchen was fully equipped.

What could be improved: The bedroom is on the second level. Unfortunately the bed is very uncomfortable. Lack of additional blankets, pillows and sheets. If you are not careful there is a very big chance to turn off the gas supply for the whole apartment and after that you will be left with no hot water. The electricity of the lights is controlled by a remote, which should be explained in advance, otherwise we had no idea how to turn them off. The bathroom on the first floor was not very clean and the shower had this strange smell as something moldy, which was not very pleasant. Also there are too many sofas which are actually not needed.

  • A pleasant experience but could be improved if the amenities receive regular servicing. – Shubhayan from Poland – 11 July 2024 (6/10)

The space is pretty big and comfortable for two people. The neighborhood is pleasant.

What could be improved: Not enough utensils in the kitchen. A broken couch. A mirror, that was precariously hanging on the wall, fell over on its own. One air conditioner doesn't work.

  • Exceptional – Ștefan from Romania – 16 August 2023 (10/10)

The loft was quite big, clean, has AC, and everything you need if you want to cook. Also it's very close to the subway.
The entry is through a inner yard, so it's quite separated from the street's noise.

What could be improved: The TV's didn't work.
