First Impressions

PrimoPiano – Garofalo A sits quietly on a residential street in Milan‘s Isola district, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. The building itself is pretty typical for this neighborhood — one of those converted residential spaces that Milan does so well. What caught my attention right away was how the owners managed to create something genuinely welcoming in what could’ve been just another generic apartment rental.

Location & Neighborhood

Via Garofalo is one of those streets that feels authentically Milanese, you know? You’re close enough to Porta Garibaldi that you can walk to the business district, but far enough away that you get to experience how locals actually live. I mean, there’s a proper Italian bar around the corner where the owner remembers your coffee order by day three. The metro connection at Isola gets you downtown in about fifteen minutes, which is honestly perfect timing.

The Space

This three-star place feels more like staying at a well-organized friend’s place than a traditional hotel. The room I stayed in had this interesting mix of IKEA practicality and Italian attention to detail — nothing fancy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The little kitchenette actually surprised me with how complete it was, and I ended up making coffee there most mornings instead of going out.

What Works Well

You know what I really appreciated? The place is quiet. Milan can be pretty intense with all the traffic and construction, but Via Garofalo stays surprisingly peaceful, especially at night. The owners clearly put thought into the small stuff — decent Wi-Fi that actually works, blackout curtains that make a difference, and enough electrical outlets in the right places. The cleaning is thorough without being obsessive, and there’s always someone available if you need something, but they’re not hovering around either.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to wow you with marble bathrooms or a fancy restaurant, but that’s sort of the point. It’s Milan without the Milan premium, if that makes sense. The 7.7 rating reflects exactly what you get — solid, dependable accommodation in a neighborhood where you can grab groceries, find a decent aperitivo spot, and still get to the Duomo when you want to do tourist things. I’d definitely come back, especially since parking around here is actually manageable compared to central Milan.

  The location is perfect, everything is close by (bakeries, restaurants, shops), and you are only about 5 min away from the metro which connects you tho the whole city. You have everything you need in the apartment. And the communication with the host was super easy.

  The accommodation was a cosy place that is perfect for a short stay. The host was very proactive in arranging a meeting to give us the keys and gave us recommendations for restaurants and things to do nearby.
  
  What could be improved: The kitchen area was quite small and only had hard chairs to sit on. I obviously understand it may be hard to fit a comfortable seating area into the small space.

  What could be improved: The shutters that covered the front door were a bit broken, so they flew open and there was no easy way to keep them from banging around in the wind. But it was only windy one day fortunately. Was very hot when we arrived, but when we opened the front door and window it cooled off quickly. Bit strange feeling to have to keep the front door open to cool the place. But there was a nice courtyard. The 'balcony' was actually a corridor where everyone walks. The air conditioning unit was hidden in the closet with signs about not using it.
