LUVI – De Castilla Overview

First Impressions

LUVI – De Castilla sits right in the heart of the Porta Nuova district, and honestly, the location hits differently than I expected. This three-star hotel occupies a modern building on Via Gaetano de Castillia — you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Milano Garibaldi station, which means you can drop your bags and be exploring the city center in under twenty minutes. The lobby feels clean and contemporary, nothing fancy but definitely more polished than your average budget spot.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I really appreciated about staying in this part of Milan — you’re in the business district, sure, but it’s not sterile like some financial areas can be. The Porta Nuova towers create this interesting urban canyon effect, and there’s actually decent foot traffic even in the evenings. You’ll find grocery stores, pharmacies, and casual dining within a block or two. The Isola district, with its trendy bars and restaurants, is just across the railway tracks — maybe a ten-minute walk if you know the shortcuts.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, which seems to be the Milan way of doing things. The bed was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep, and the bathroom was modern with a decent shower — hot water pressure was actually pretty solid. Storage space is limited, so pack light if you can. The air conditioning worked well during my summer stay, which isn’t always a given in European hotels of this category.

Getting Around

The real selling point here is the transport connections. Garibaldi station is right there — you’ve got metro lines, regional trains, and the Malpensa Express all within easy reach. I mean, getting to and from the airport was ridiculously simple. The purple metro line connects you directly to the Duomo area, while the green line takes you toward Navigli if you’re planning evening adventures. Parking in this area can be tricky and expensive, so I’d honestly recommend skipping the car entirely.

Why Guests Appreciate It

Look, LUVI – De Castilla isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s refreshing. It’s a solid, no-nonsense base for exploring Milan without the premium prices of the city center hotels. The staff speaks decent English and can point you toward good local spots — they recommended a fantastic restaurant just around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. For travelers who want modern comfort, excellent connectivity, and a genuine Milan neighborhood feel without breaking the bank, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Milan hotels keep travelers close to Gothic spires, fashion boutiques, and metro lines to Renaissance masterpieces.

Reviews of LUVI – De Castilla

  • Superb – Matija from Serbia – 26 February 2025 (9/10)

Location is great, you have everything that you need while youre on vacation, close to the metro and the wifi is amazing. Would recommend

What could be improved: Fridge is hard to open, the shower is too small, no hand held shower head which is disappointing and the hairdryer is literally melting and its too heated.

  • Good apartment but could be improved to be more comfy for the guests – Marta from Serbia – 3 February 2025 (7/10)

First of all, the location is incredible! It is super safe, which is sooo important when it comes to Milano. There are a lot of supermarkets nearby, Bosco Verticale is literally right outside the window, along with Unicredit Tower. Porta Nuova Shopping District is right across the apartment, as well as the "flee market".
There's also a great deal of restaurants around. Metro stations like Gioia, Isola, Zara and Porta Garibaldi are walking distance away. The apartment itself is HUGE, bright, clean and well organized. It's heated exclusively with floor heating which is perfect. The apartment is fully and excellently equipped with everything a person might need.

What could be improved: We came across a few problems, ones are small, other are quite big and troublesome.
First of all – THE SHOWER. It is literally men's shower. There's no hose or faucet. Only fixed shower head at the top. You either have to bend like crazy to avoid getting your hair wet or just go with it and wash your hair with every single shower. It's extremely inconvenient if you're a girl.

Secondly, there should be an instruction video for the door lock. We had so many difficulties with it, we could've stayed locked out the entire night if we didn't find the video on YouTube. We sent the emergency message to the owner, but they only responded im the morning with the new code, not even bothered to ask if we succeeded to enter the apartment last night.

Thirdly, there was something obviously wrong with the floor heater, since it was heating the place up like crazy, and we couldn't adjust the temp. Then, on a fourth day, it broke. Didn't work at all, it was freezing! Both times, the owner asked for a thermometer picture, instead of just sending the repairman. The repairman came on a fifth day and "fixed" it so "well", that we had to turn portable space heater on (we found those in the closet) and after an hour the power went out completely! The ower told us to go to the electrical room in the basement of the yard and just flip all the switches. First of all, that basement is creepy as hell, we were beyond scared to go down. Second, there were too many doors down there and the owner said "you'll find it easy". And lastly, we are NOT electricians! We shouldn't be doing that! We're not fixing any electricity problem in our own homes, let alone here! What if we did that, and got hurt?
At the end, we had to demand for someone to come and fix the issue.

  • Superb – Katalin from United Kingdom – 21 October 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location, easy to get to all the great places in Milan. Lovely ice cream shop next door!
We loved our stay at Luvi – De Castilla! Comfortable, well equipped, absolute worth the money.

  • Great place to spend a few night in milan – Želnys from Lithuania – 4 October 2024 (9/10)

The location was really good and the apartment was cozy.

What could be improved: There was some construction from early in the morning so there was noise that kept me up at night. Another thing is when travelling in autumn when the evenings are moody you might find yourself watching tv in the evening, but the TV in the apartment is quite old and doesn't have youtube/netflix, which kind of makes it pointless for someone not italian.

  • Superb – Olivia from United Kingdom – 6 September 2024 (9/10)

Facilities where great, very nicely decorated. Lovely private space

  • Pleasant stay in Milan – Kyoko from Japan – 28 August 2024 (8/10)

Good location – cute place and clean

What could be improved: Difficult to enter – took 10 min to figure it out to get in. Even though I pressed open, the main door didn’t open.
There was no fork / knife (cutlery) so I couldn’t eat fruits which required cutting.

  • Quiet stay close to the city center – Yuliya from Finland – 30 July 2024 (9/10)

The property was in a good location close to many metro and bus options. There was a grocery store and shopping near by. There was a nice park and bars around.

What could be improved: Everything was good

  • Very good – Todor from Bulgaria – 17 June 2024 (8/10)

Incredible location! You’ve never had such a view from your window.

  • Very good – Giulio from Italy – 24 April 2024 (8/10)

Amazing house in the Garibaldi/Isola area, at the crossings of several modern buildings. Very modern and nicely organised, a perfect place to enjoy Milan with your own privacy.

What could be improved: The house entrance system, with a website etc is a bit cumbersome. I would stick to something simpler. Moreover, I got an electrical fault that turned off some of the sockets in the house (including internet and therefore the electric locks), and nobody came to fix it despite I notified it.

  • Superb – Diana from Hong Kong – 24 April 2023 (9/10)

The location is very convenient and the host is responsive and attentive. I had a slight problem on the first night and it was addressed very swiftly.
