First Impressions

Marco Polo GreenRoom sits on a quiet street in Milan‘s Porta Nuova district, and honestly, the name tells you everything you need to know about this place. The “green” theme runs throughout — from the living wall in the lobby to the eco-friendly touches in every corner. It’s the kind of three-star hotel that doesn’t try too hard but gets the basics absolutely right.

The Neighborhood

You’re basically in Milan’s business district here, which means it’s all gleaming towers and wide boulevards during the day, then surprisingly quiet at night. The Porta Garibaldi station is maybe a seven-minute walk — I timed it — and that puts you two stops from the Duomo on the green line. What I really love about this area is how you can grab amazing coffee from the locals heading to work, but you won’t deal with tourist crowds until you actually want to.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, with this clever modular furniture that actually works. The bed was firm (thank god), and the shower had proper pressure — something you can’t take for granted in older Milan buildings. The green theme continues here with plants that look like someone actually waters them, plus these nice sustainable toiletries that don’t smell like industrial soap.

Practical Matters

The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — they sent me to this incredible aperitivo spot around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Milan — why would you eat hotel food when you’ve got authentic trattorias within walking distance? They do serve a simple breakfast that’ll fuel your morning without breaking your budget.

Look, Marco Polo GreenRoom isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in Milan, and that’s exactly why it works. You get clean, comfortable accommodations in a genuinely useful location without paying Quadrilatero prices. The eco-friendly approach feels authentic rather than performative, and the staff treats you like a person, not a room number. It’s perfect if you want to experience Milan like you actually live here — at least for a few days.

  It was conveniently located near Garbibaldi Station. Clean room, good a/c, relatively quiet.
  
  What could be improved: The check in was difficult and directions unclear… 4 keys required to get into the building and room. Old , tatty but clean linen and towels.

  Very easy and smooth check in, even though we arrived quite late in the evening. The room is small, the bedroom is spacious. It is conveniently close to two train station in Milano. It is comfortable for a short stay, one or two nights max.

  What could be improved: Having no dishwashing liquid etc to wash coffee cups as unit not serviced daily. As unit has access to washing machine, it would have been good to have a single laundry tablet/powder provided instead of having to buy whole packet from supermarket.

  The accommodation was amazing, it was smaller than we expected, but it had everything you needed, it was clean, the location was perfect, the host was very nice and helpful, excellent value for money

  Clean, has AC, close to the center and metro stations, nice area around with many cafes and a supermarket. Bed was comfortable for 1 night. Communication with the host is pretty efficient during the stay.
