First Impressions

When I first walked into Porta Garibaldi, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical — the building entrance doesn’t exactly scream “four-star hotel.” But honestly, that’s part of what makes this place so interesting. You take the elevator up to the fourth floor and suddenly you’re in this sleek, modern space that feels more like a sophisticated apartment than a traditional hotel. The whole setup caught me off guard in the best way possible.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about staying near Porta Garibaldi station — you’re basically at the center of Milan’s transport universe. I mean, you can walk to the high-speed trains in about three minutes, which is ridiculous when you think about it. The Porta Nuova business district is right there, with all those shiny skyscrapers and the Bosco Verticale (you know, those tower buildings covered in plants that everyone photographs). What I really appreciated was being able to hop on the metro and reach the Duomo in maybe fifteen minutes, but still feel like I was staying somewhere with actual personality.

The Room Experience

The room itself feels more like a well-designed studio apartment than your typical hotel setup. There’s this compact but fully functional kitchenette that actually works — I made coffee there every morning instead of paying hotel prices. The bed was comfortable (not too soft, not too firm), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that made me want to stay in longer than I probably should have. Everything’s clean and modern, though the soundproofing could be better if you’re sensitive to street noise.

Practical Details

What really sold me on this place was how well thought out everything is. The staff speaks decent English and actually seems to care about helping you figure out Milan — they gave me some solid recommendations for places to eat that weren’t just tourist traps. Parking can be tricky in this area (like most of central Milan), but they can arrange something if you’re driving. The building itself has good security, which matters when you’re staying in what’s essentially a residential area.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea — if you want a traditional hotel with a lobby restaurant and all that, you might feel like something’s missing. But if you appreciate staying somewhere that feels authentically Milanese while still being incredibly practical for getting around the city, Porta Garibaldi hits that sweet spot. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting: a clean, well-located place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, run by people who actually seem to get what travelers need.

  Our host was very welcoming and gave brilliant instructions on how to access the apartment in their absence. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed. We liked the area, and really appreciated the recommendations for eating and drinking locally. Convenient for Porta Garabaldi train and metro station, with this being a stop for the Malpensa airport train, made getting from the airport to our accommodation straightforward.

  We were met by Host on arrival. She explained the accommodation fully, with hints on places to go, supermarkets, eateries etc. She suggested a pizza restaurant on our first night which was outstanding., la Biga. Alessandra was very helpful. The unit was spacious with large kitchen, lounge, full bedroom, and full sized bathroom which included washing machine, iron and ironing board. All facilities were modern and well maintained. We were looking for a special restaurant for a birthday dinner and found it right next door! Osterio Gambero Rosso. Fabulous meal, great service.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing not to like. The kitchen was well stocked with fruits, cakes, teas and coffee.
  The only suggestion would be some milk in the fridge for a tea or coffee for the weary traveller.
