First Impressions

Walking up to Residenza Porta Volta on Via Carlo Farini, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away just enough to feel special but close enough to everything that matters in Milan. The building itself has this elegant, understated Italian charm that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel,” which honestly makes it even better. You know what I mean? Sometimes the best places are the ones that blend right into the neighborhood.

Prime Porta Nuova Territory

Here’s the thing about this location — you’re literally in one of Milan’s most dynamic areas without the chaos of being right on a main drag. The Porta Nuova district is where all the modern energy happens, with those impressive skyscrapers and business district vibes, but you can actually walk to the Brera district for aperitivo in about fifteen minutes. Stazione Garibaldi is so close that getting anywhere in the city (or catching trains to other parts of Italy) becomes ridiculously easy.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of contemporary design and Italian warmth — not too minimalist, not too fussy. What really impressed me was the attention to detail in the finishes and how thoughtfully everything was arranged. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a Milan property, and I mean, when you’re paying four-star prices in this city, those details actually matter quite a bit.

Neighborhood Life

One of my favorite discoveries was just wandering the streets around the hotel in the early evening. There’s this authentic Milan neighborhood feel where you’ll see locals grabbing coffee at the corner bar or picking up groceries, mixed with young professionals heading home from the business district. The area has several solid dining options within a two-block radius — nothing too touristy, just honest Italian places where you can get a proper meal without breaking the bank.

Why Guests Love It

Look, with a 9.1 rating, this place clearly gets something right, and from my experience, it’s the combination of location, value, and that distinctly Milanese sophistication that doesn’t feel pretentious. You’re staying somewhere that feels connected to the real city while still having access to all the major sights and transportation links. It’s the kind of place where you can drop your bags, explore Milan properly, and come back to somewhere that feels like a retreat rather than just another hotel room.

  This place (Sapri) is located near Chinatown and close to the city center. There are plenty of restaurants nearby — both Italian and Asian — and a grocery store just around the corner, which is very convenient. I specifically needed to stay in this area, and I really liked the location.
  
  The service was excellent! For guests staying more than a week, weekly cleaning is included at no extra cost. The gym is available 24/7 and free to use. There's also a great spa area with pools and saunas, also free of charge. The apartment doesn't have a balcony, but you can enjoy your coffee until 10 PM in a very nice winter garden area on the ground floor. The staff responds very quickly — for example, my hairdryer broke and was replaced just a couple of hours after I reported it.
  
  The apartment is small, but everything is modern, cozy, and clean. It has all basic kitchenware, and a Nespresso machine.
  
  What could be improved: There’s no microwave or toaster. While this was technically stated in the listing, it would have been a nice touch for convenience. If you want to reheat anything, the only option is the oven — and you’ll have to wash the oven tray afterward. There's no heatproof cookware available either.

  Lovely place. Friendly helpful staff. Spa was very nice and very clean. Not too far from Garibaldi railway station.
  
  What could be improved: Supermarket was a 20 mins walk away. Perhaps there was a nearer one but I didn't notice any others close to the apartment. Anyway, that's only a minor thing. We really liked the apartment and the staff.
