First Impressions

Tarra place sits on a quiet side street just steps from Milan‘s central train station, and honestly, that’s both its biggest advantage and something you need to know going in. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t try to be anything fancy — think clean, functional, and refreshingly straightforward. The building itself has that classic Milanese architecture you see throughout the Stazione Centrale neighborhood, though the lobby is pretty compact.

Location & Getting Around

Via Giulio Tarra is actually perfect if you’re using Milan as a base for day trips or arriving by train. I mean, you can literally walk to Centrale station in about three minutes, which is incredibly handy when you’re dragging luggage around. The area isn’t exactly the most charming part of Milan — it’s more business-focused than romantic — but there’s a solid mix of restaurants and cafes within a few blocks. You’ll find yourself on the metro pretty quickly to reach the Duomo or Navigli area.

The Room

The room I stayed in was compact but well-organized, which seems to be the theme throughout Tarra place. The bed was comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space considering the size. What I appreciated most was how quiet it stayed at night — you’d expect more noise being so close to the train station, but the windows do a surprisingly good job blocking it out. The bathroom is functional rather than spacious, though everything works as it should.

Practical Details

Breakfast isn’t included in most rates, but there’s a decent cafe right next door that locals actually use — always a good sign. The staff speaks solid English and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and recommendations, which you don’t always get at this price point. There’s no fancy spa or elaborate amenities, but they handle the basics well. The WiFi worked reliably throughout my stay, and housekeeping was consistent.

  What could be improved: Can improved to provide fresh towels, and not super old towels. During booking they confirmed we can leave our luggages after check out. But when remind that we will our luggages, they told us no space to put our luggages and look for luggage rental which super inconvenient for a group and expensive.

  Host was really helpful, clear instructions and always on hand for any questions. Great location and very secure.
  
  What could be improved: Very basic and a bit rough round the edges. Nothing specifically wrong but clearly could do with a bit of TLC. Very few amenities, no TV, and if planning on cooking it’s pretty sparce. Not even a corkscrew! Sofa bed I can imagine is really handy, but is very uncomfortable to sit on as a normal sofa.

  What could be improved: Fans bases were broken so fans could not be used, no airconditioning. Was extremely hot and uncomfortable inside the apartment.
  Bathroom drains very slow so water accumulates while taking a bath.
  Too many peiple coming in and out of the building. Could not make out if residents or people just walking in, felt a bit insecure.

  I liked the overall cleanliness and kitchen facilities in the apartment.
  
  What could be improved: The neighbours in this building were very rude to us and especially the woman living one floor below our apartment. She was yelling continuously and we cursing the host for giving short stays to her guests and this was really sad that this woman ruined our experience living there otherwise the host herself was a wonderful lady.
