First Impressions

The Black Crystal caught me off guard — honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from an apartment-style hotel tucked into a residential building on Via Imperia. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight. This apartment sits on the fifth floor of a typical Milanese building in Famagosta, and while the exterior won’t win any beauty contests, step inside and it’s a completely different story.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about staying in Famagosta — most tourists skip right over this neighborhood, which is actually why I liked it. You’re about 20 minutes from the Duomo by metro (Famagosta Green Line station is literally around the corner), but the area feels refreshingly local. There’s a Carrefour supermarket two blocks away, and I found some solid trattorias nearby where you’ll hear more Italian than English — always a good sign.

The Space Itself

The room setup here is pretty clever — it’s designed like a modern studio but with enough space that you don’t feel cramped. The kitchenette is actually functional (I made coffee every morning), and there’s this interesting black crystal-themed decor that somehow works without being tacky. The bed was comfortable enough, and I appreciated having a proper workspace since I was mixing business with pleasure on this trip.

What Actually Matters

Look, this is a three-star place, so don’t expect concierge service or a fancy lobby. But the host was incredibly responsive — I had a question about parking and got an answer within minutes. The Wi-Fi actually worked well (crucial for me), and the heating kept up with Milan’s chilly weather. Plus, having that kitchen meant I could grab fresh ingredients from the local market and cook when I didn’t feel like going out.

Why Guests Love It

I mean, a 9.5 rating doesn’t happen by accident. What strikes me about The Black Crystal is how it nails the basics without trying to be something it’s not. You get a clean, well-designed space in Milan at a price that won’t destroy your budget, plus you’re staying in a real neighborhood instead of some tourist bubble. It’s perfect if you want to experience the city like someone who actually lives here — just don’t expect room service or a hotel restaurant downstairs.
