Villa Massari Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Villa Massari feels like discovering something that wasn’t meant for tourists — in the best possible way. This four-star property sits on a quiet piazzale in the Bicocca-Zara district, and honestly, the neighborhood has this authentic Milanese vibe that you just don’t get near the Duomo. The building itself has character without trying too hard, which I appreciated after staying in some overly polished places around Milan.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I loved about this spot — you’re actually living like a local. The Bicocca area isn’t touristy at all, but that metro connection gets you to the center in about 20 minutes. There’s this great little mercato just a few blocks away where I grabbed the best coffee, and the university district nearby means there are plenty of casual spots to eat that won’t break the bank. You know what? Sometimes being slightly off the beaten path is exactly what you need.

The Room Experience

My room was honestly bigger than I expected for Milan — and that’s saying something in a city where space is premium. The setup felt residential rather than hotel-ish, which worked for me since I was there for almost a week. The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and I mean, decent water pressure is worth mentioning when you’re in an older European city. Little touches like proper reading lights and enough outlets actually made a difference.

Amenities & Dining

Villa Massari keeps things straightforward — there’s a small restaurant that serves solid Italian basics, though I’ll be honest, the neighborhood options were so good I didn’t eat there much. What I did appreciate was the 24-hour front desk (surprisingly helpful when my flight got delayed) and reliable wifi throughout the building. The common areas have this relaxed feel where you might actually want to hang out, not just pass through.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place you’ll be posting Instagram shots of every corner, but that’s sort of the point. It’s comfortable, the staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, and you’ll end up exploring parts of Milan that most visitors miss entirely. The 8.1 rating makes sense — it’s the kind of solid, unpretentious choice that leaves you feeling good about where you stayed without any major complaints or dramatic highlights. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

  • We had a lovely stay – the place was comfortable, secure, and located in a very nice neighborhood. It’s also well situat – Diya from Mauritius – 2 September 2025 (9/10)

The place was comfortable, secure, and located in a very nice neighborhood.

What could be improved: The toaster caused a short circuit when we used it, there weren’t additional plastic bags for the bins, and the microwave socket was a little far which made it slightly inconvenient.

  • A nice location for a little friend's gateway – Sarah from France – 7 July 2025 (9/10)

We grabbed the keys off a little secured box outside the apartment after getting the check in instructions from an email the day of our arrival, and everything was pretty clear in said email. The host(s) were reactive and quick to help via the what's app number provided, and we had a lovely stay at this location. It was conveniently placed in between a Tram and Metro station, and just a few minutes away from the center of Milan. I would definitely book this location again if I ever came back to Milan for a short trip!

What could be improved: I would say that the neightborhood was a little dangerous especially at night, which is not really the host's fault, but I would recommend being careful if walking home alone or with a girls only group at night!

  • Overall pleasant. – Benjaim from Germany – 29 June 2025 (9/10)

  • Superb – Calleja from Malta – 30 May 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The noise of the spa machine

  • Calm and nice neighborhood. Great value for money – Ana from Guatemala – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

It’s quiet and calm, the neighborhood is nice. It’s a nice place to come and relax after a long day of walking. The water pressure was good on the first floor. And we had hot water every time. Beds were confortable. We had everything we needed to make ourselves a nice breakfast. And the common room with coffee bar was the perfect amenity for our group. There’s nothing like having a nice espresso before heading out for a day of sightseeing.

There is an additional restroom in the common area downstairs. Which is a lifesaver if you’re traveling with a group.

We got our instructions for contactless check in on the day of the check in. The instructions for check in and check out were timely and clear. We did use a link sent to us to pay for the tourist tax. So don’t worry if they requiere you to do the same. It all perfectly normal.

I would definitely stay here again..!

What could be improved: The WiFi wasn’t great. So bring your own internet connection if you need it for work. It’ll do okay to send a few messages here and there.

  • Spacious, convient location – Ying-chih from Taiwan – 21 March 2025 (9/10)

Spacious , small balcony, convenient to access to public cafe bar…

What could be improved: Sometimes a bit noisy from others room.
