First Impressions

Walking into Bamboo Milano MacMahon, you’ll notice it’s not trying too hard to impress — and honestly, that’s what I liked about it. The lobby has this clean, contemporary feel without being sterile, and the bamboo accents (naturally) give it a subtle Asian-inspired touch that feels genuine rather than themed. It’s a four-star property that knows exactly what it is, sitting quietly on Via Mac Mahon in the Sempione district.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what’s great about Sempione — you’re actually in a real Milan neighborhood, not some tourist bubble. The Parco Sempione is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which means you can grab a morning espresso and wander through one of the city’s best green spaces before the crowds hit. You know what surprised me? How easy it was to get around from here — the metro connections are solid, but you’re also close enough to walk to Brera or the Quadrilatero if you’re up for it.

The Room Experience

My room was smaller than what you’d find in American hotels, but that’s Milan for you — space is premium. What they’ve done well is maximize every inch without making it feel cramped. The bed was genuinely comfortable (sometimes that’s a gamble in boutique properties), and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that actually worked properly. The bamboo design elements continue here, but it’s subtle — think clean lines and natural textures rather than pandas and zen gardens.

Dining & Amenities

The breakfast situation is solid — nothing spectacular, but you’ll find quality Italian pastries, decent coffee, and enough variety to fuel your day. There’s a small restaurant on-site, though I’ll be honest, with Milan’s incredible food scene right outside your door, you might want to explore. The staff actually gave me some great local recommendations, which felt more helpful than the usual tourist trap suggestions you get at bigger hotels.

Look, this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to wow you with over-the-top service or flashy amenities — it’s better than that. It’s reliable, comfortable, and positioned in a way that lets you experience Milan like someone who actually lives here. The 8.1 rating makes sense when you consider it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. If you want to feel like you’re staying in a real neighborhood while still having all the conveniences of a well-run hotel, this place hits that sweet spot.

  What could be improved: Okay so, when we got there the plates were not washed properly. The shower head was leaking water when we were taking showers. We didn’t have any paper to clean our hands in the kitchen and the towels were a little torn with stitches on them, you’ll need new ones.

  Cosy and clear apartment with all the necessary utilities near city centre (30 minute with tram to most tourist attractions, tram stop very close by). Located in a nice neighbourhood with lots of shops, restaurants and groceries available nearby. Excellent communication with hosts with easy and clear instructions provided in a timely manner.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was excellent, only recommendation would be improving showerhead and drain in the shower.

  The location was just right for what we needed. Parking (garage) opposite the flat, supermarket, and metro station within a couple of minutes walks. Also, some lovely local places to eat.

  In general everything was neat and tidy, nicely decorated. Shops are nearby, tram is just there and Metro 10min walk. So great an quiet location, local cafes are very affordable comparing to central Milan.
  
  What could be improved: The shower had both heads running, you couldn't select which head to use. Also, it can get a bit hot in the bathroom as there is no airway or a/c, only window. The rest of the flat is well placed with 2 a/c's and 2 balconies.

  The bed was comfortable. The room had everything I needed. The metro and tram stations are close. There is a 24/7 supermarket nearby.

  The apartment is very spacious and light with two balconies. We were warm and cozy all the time.
  I traveled with my mom so it was very comfy for us.
  The building keeper was super nice and welcoming every time i saw her. In general it's a lovely neighbourhod if you'r looking for a quieter area in Milan.
  
  What could be improved: Location is not that central so you'll need to take a train / bus / taxi for the main shopping streets but there's also a lot of attractions in the area.
