First Impressions

Walking up to Bamboo Milano Umbria Apartment on Viale Umbria, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the outside — it’s tucked into a typical Milanese residential building that blends right into the neighborhood. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. This three-star apartment feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a traditional hotel, and after spending a few nights here, I realized that’s exactly what makes it work.

Location & Getting Around

The Porta Romana area isn’t touristy at all, which I mean as a compliment. You’re living alongside actual Milanese residents, grabbing morning coffee at the same bars they do. The Porta Romana metro station is about a seven-minute walk — I timed it because I’m obsessive like that — and from there you can reach the Duomo in roughly fifteen minutes. What I really loved though was having Bocconi University nearby, which means there are plenty of affordable spots to eat and drink that don’t feel like tourist traps.

The Space Itself

The room is basically a studio setup with everything you need but nothing you don’t. There’s a small kitchenette that’s actually functional — I made pasta twice and simple breakfasts every morning without any issues. The bed was comfortable enough, and honestly, the whole space felt clean and well-maintained. It’s not fancy, but it’s thoughtfully put together, and I appreciated having actual counter space and a proper-sized refrigerator.

Neighborhood Life

Here’s what travel guides won’t tell you about this area — there’s an excellent restaurant called Osteria del Borgo just two blocks away that serves incredible risotto, and locals actually eat there. The morning market on Via Santa Sofia happens twice a week and it’s where I bought the best tomatoes I had in Milan. You’ll also find a decent grocery store within walking distance, which matters when you have cooking facilities and want to save money on meals.

Look, if you’re expecting hotel services like daily housekeeping or a concierge, this isn’t your place. But if you want to experience Milan like someone who actually lives there, with the independence of your own space and parking available nearby (though I’d recommend metro over driving in the city), then Bamboo Milano Umbria Apartment delivers exactly what it promises. The 7.7 rating makes sense — it’s solidly good without being extraordinary, and sometimes that’s precisely what you need.

  Location – Excellent – next door to shops ! A short walk to the metro to get every where easily – location could not be better !!

  What could be improved: I feel overall the stay was great but where it is a holiday rental there were a few things that could make this 10/10
  When opening the door it did smell – musty – un lived in – maybe hasn’t been used for a few weeks but nothing a nice diffuser wouldn’t have sorted.
  Wine glasses – tea spoons – scissors – would have been useful – do be a stock up of bits is needed.
  Bathroom could have been cleaner – overall clean but round the edges – just a bit of bleach would get rid of the tough stains
  New washing up sponge !! New cloth – is better than used ones
  Washing machine door needs to be kept open as it did produce an awful smell but obviously due to being closed and not used.
  These are purely suggestions to make it Excellent
  I went out and purchased new sponges , air freshener and wipes and with keeping the windows open when in , it didn’t take long to feel fresher
  
  The main issue – mirrors! The walk in wardrobe – lovely but would improve so much with a long mirror
  – 4 people trying to get ready was difficult with just the bathroom mirror and a small high hall mirror.
  
  Like previously said – all issues that were sorted quickly but would have been nice not to have sorted at all.

  The customer service of this apartment is amazing. They were always available for my 1000 questions and provided us to leave luggage in the apartment before the check in since we had an early flight to Milano.
  Apart6ment was clean, we received towels and fresh linens.

  What could be improved: However, there were some issues during our stay: the boiler wasn’t working properly, so we didn’t have hot water most of the time. The beds were creaky, and there was no toilet paper provided.

  Great floor plan, high ceilings. Good kitchen utensils. Hand soap, dish washing soap, laundry detergent provided. Comfortable beds.

  We only needed a place to sleep before our early morning flight out of Milan Linate. Location was great because it was close to the airport, only a 15 minute drive. Big supermarket around the corner. Property was clean, warm, and the bed was very comfortable.

  The building was beautiful and the location was great in terms of accessibility. Metro station was really close and the area had great bars and restaurants within walking distance. Communication with the host was easy and helpful. Overall we had a good experience.
  
  What could be improved: Shower and sink had drainage issues and the shower head kept detaching from the hose. Moreover, the rainy weather accentuated the sewage smell in the bathroom. There were some aspects in terms of cleaning that could be fixed: bedsheets were okay, but we found the mattress protector dirty and stained when stripping the bed; floors were not thoroughly cleaned. Beds were so squeaky that we often woke up during the night because of it.
