Here’s the thing about Porta Romana — it’s where actual locals live and work. I mean, you’re still in Milan proper, but it’s got this residential feel that I actually prefer to the chaos around Duomo. There’s a great little market just down the street where you can grab fresh produce, and the metro connection gets you anywhere you need to go without the premium prices of staying right in the tourist zone.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup works really well here. Each unit has its own kitchenette — nothing fancy, but it’s functional enough to make coffee in the morning or heat up leftovers from that amazing risotto place around the corner. The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for European standards, with decent storage and a window that actually opened (you’d be surprised how rare that is). The WiFi worked perfectly, which honestly matters more than fancy amenities when you’re trying to stay connected.

Daily Life Details

What I appreciated most was how the place just… works. The shower had proper water pressure, the heating responded when you adjusted it, and the front desk staff knew enough English to help with restaurant recommendations. Parking can be arranged if you’re driving, though I’d honestly recommend skipping the car in Milan altogether. The building stays quiet even though you’re on a fairly busy street, which tells me they invested in proper windows.

Look, this isn’t going to wow you with a fancy lobby or a rooftop bar. But after spending a few nights here, I get why people keep coming back. It’s that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine value — clean, comfortable, well-located — without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. The Porta Romana area gives you a real taste of how Milanese people actually live, plus you’re close enough to walk to Bocconi University or catch the metro to anywhere else. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just do the basics really, really well.

  Good location, very spacious apartment with two bathrooms.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is not looked after very well, the draws in the kitchen and the tap are broken, the door of the built in fridge needs urgent attention!! as well as the flash in the toilet. Very noisy at night, the people keep talking and shouting in the courtyard till early hours in the morning.

  Logement calme (aucun bruit la nuit), spacieux et confortable, bien situé (arrêt tramway presque devant la porte ou 30 mn à pied du centre historique ou des Navigli). Pièces climatisées, ce qui est un plus quand dehors il fait 38 degrés !

  The house is quite pleasant and new. You got everything you need in it. 2 bathrooms, one in suite and another for the whole house. They both have shower. Kitchen fully equipped and heating works.
  
  What could be improved: The lift is interesting. The more people you have on it the longer it takes. Being on the 5th floor the old people should take the lift and the younger go up the stairs. We also had to jump the gate when leaving which was a challenge because it was closed, so here's a heads up to anyone leaving in odd schedules (during the night, we left at 5 am). Talk to the owners about the leaving time, we didn't and the outside gate was locked.

  the apartment it is large , big beds , large dining table , lots of space for children, large wardrobes
  
  What could be improved: The shower wasn’t proper clean , full of lime scale , on the bathroom s floor was hairs , skarting board dusty, also I saw a razor forgotten between wall and cupboard .
  initially I booked another apartment very closed to the center , however one day day before arriving , I was informed that I cannot have the apartment because it is a leak . I spend about 2 hrs on whats up with a customer service member who helped the find another flat . we found this apartment but quite far away from city centre and transport when you have children with you .
  after check in , I informed the manger Rommy about the dirty bathroom but I haven’t received any response.

  Die Lage in Milano ist wirklich gut – ca. 20 min zum Dom zu Fuß !!! Die Wohnung ist groß – wunderbar für eine Familie in der sich auch die Kinder zurück ziehen wollen. 2 Schlafzimmer, 2 Bäder – super !!! Das Treppenhaus ist wie im Film und das Haus in sehr gepflegten Zustand. Die Bewohner unheimlich freundlich und zuvorkommend !!! Schräg gegenüber ist eine günstige Pizzarie mit hervorragender Qualität … und die liebenswertesten Wirte.
  
  What could be improved: Könnte sauberer sein. Die Möbelfronten sind super billig und wenig vertrauenerweckend. Das schlimmste ist aber die Klimaanlage. Diese zielt in den Schlafzimmern direkt auf die Lage der Köpfe und ist immer spürbar als Zug. Bei uns wurde meine Frau krank, und die Kinder bekamen Schnupfen und Halskratzen … ich wurde verschont.
