Hotel di Porta Romana Overview

First Impressions

Hotel di Porta Romana sits on a quiet residential street that feels refreshingly removed from the tourist chaos, yet you’re still very much in the heart of things. The building itself has that understated Milanese charm — nothing flashy, but there’s something appealing about its no-nonsense approach. I mean, this is a three-star place that knows exactly what it is, and honestly, that’s sort of refreshing in a city where so many hotels try too hard.

Location & Neighborhood

The Porta Romana area is one of those Milan neighborhoods that locals actually live in — you’ll see people walking their dogs, grabbing groceries, living normal lives. It’s about a 15-minute metro ride to the Duomo, which means you can easily get to all the major sights without dealing with the noise and crowds right outside your window. The Porta Romana metro station is literally a few minutes’ walk away, and there are some great little cafés and trattorias scattered around that you’d never find in the guidebooks.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully arranged — they’ve clearly made the most of the space without it feeling cramped. The bed was comfortable enough, and I appreciated the decent-sized desk if you need to get some work done. The bathroom was small but functional, with a good shower that actually had proper water pressure. You know what I liked? The windows were well-insulated, so even though you’re in the city, it stays pretty quiet at night.

Practical Matters

The staff here are genuinely helpful without being overly formal — they’ll give you real directions and recommendations rather than just pointing you toward tourist traps. Breakfast is simple but fresh, with good coffee (this is Italy, after all) and pastries that are actually worth eating. There’s no restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Milan — you want to be eating out in the neighborhood anyway. The front desk can help with dinner reservations, and they seem to know which places are actually worth your time.

Why Guests Appreciate It

This place works because it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. You’re getting clean, comfortable accommodations in a real Milan neighborhood, with easy access to everything you want to see. The price point makes sense for what you get, and there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than designed for Instagram. If you’re the type who wants to experience Milan like someone who actually lives there — rather than just hitting the major tourist spots — this is a solid choice that won’t break the bank.

To book hotel in Milan for fashion week elegance, travelers reserve early to pair Duomo sunrise visits with evening aperitivo rituals.

Reviews of Hotel di Porta Romana

  • Good – Aleksandra from Albania – 23 November 2025 (7/10)

İt was a positive experience over all , i liked the fact that we had a balcony , metro station and groceries stores were super close .

What could be improved: Staff was not rude but not nice either, could be nice if they actually look and pay attention when u ask for something. The cleaning lady was so nice when i asked her for something.

  • Very good – Neacsu from Romania – 26 October 2025 (8/10)

It was very clean. They changed the towels and gave new care products only for a 2 night stay. The area is quite nice and not that far from the center. A minifridge was such big and pleasant surprise in the room.

What could be improved: The interaction with the reception personnel was not that nice. In the day I arrived the guy that I interracted with seemed a little bit rude, I don't know what his problem was. Furthermore in the day that I left there was a lady that also has left me with a bitter taste after the interaction. The fact that you have another entrance in the hotel is a bonus because you don't have to walk all the time through the reception, but the fact that you have so many keys….. and the guy that gave it to me during the first day did not take the time to explain it as he should have done it (or maybe his english skills were not that good). Anyway, I needed to figure it out on my own. A reccomandation would be to change the toilet paper. I have never seen so thin toilet paper in my life. ARO? Really? I understand that some prices need to be cut down from different places but c'mon, buy a decent one.

  • Exceptional – Evelyn from United States – 25 October 2025 (10/10)

Was a good location easy to get the 🚇 and to get to the el Duomo, and other places.

  • Not good checking out time is terrible and owner staff behaviour is bad she come to shout to leave room only 5 mnt late – Sunil from India – 23 October 2025 (5/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Behaviour of owner

  • Exceptional – Maximus from Australia – 20 October 2025 (10/10)

The room was a good size, the breakfasts were delicious, and the location isn’t far from the centre of Milan

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Good option for staying in MIlan – Marika from Georgia – 29 September 2025 (8/10)

Hotel is small and comfortable, room was not big and bathroom also quite small but ok. staff quite attentive. location is good as we can reach Duomo by foot and come back also by foot, but anyway was taking lots of energy .

What could be improved: room lighting was not enough, we were missing hotel shoes.

  • Passable – Wendy from United Kingdom – 28 September 2025 (5/10)

    Location was good

What could be improved: Room was very small and cramped. A bit dated

  • Exceptional – Florin from Romania – 30 May 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: The sink was clogged

  • Cheap and cheerful – Rebecca from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (10/10)

Cheap and cheerful, comfortable, quiet and lots of great places to eat nearby.

What could be improved: Wish the room had a kettle or fridge

  • Not impressed – Gabriele from Italy – 14 May 2025 (6/10)

Rooms are very clean and daily room service

What could be improved: Very basic offer, room had no slippers, no water boiler, very small desk all taken by TV, closet is just a clothes hanger, toilet is quite uncomfortable as it is quite tall, straight in front of the shower, and wobbly…
