When I first walked up to the building on Via Val Strona, I appreciated how it blends into the neighborhood rather than screaming “tourist accommodation.” It’s a three-star setup that doesn’t try to be something it isn’t — just solid, comfortable lodging in a city where that can be surprisingly hard to find.

The Porta Vittoria district is one of those areas that locals actually live in, which I mean as a compliment. You’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the Duomo, but honestly, I enjoyed having a reason to explore this part of Milan. There’s a Carrefour nearby for groceries, and the morning espresso routine at the corner bar became part of my daily ritual. The area feels authentically Milanese without the tourist markup on everything.

The Apartment Setup

What you get here is essentially a functional apartment that works well for travelers who want more space than a typical hotel room. The kitchen is compact but equipped with everything you need — I actually cooked a few meals, which saved money and felt more like living in Milan rather than just visiting. The furnishing is IKEA-meets-Italian-practicality, nothing fancy, but everything works. You know what I appreciated most? Decent water pressure in the shower and reliable WiFi.

What Works (And What Doesn’t)

The 7.7 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. This isn’t boutique charm or design hotel aesthetics, but it’s clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet for Milan. The building has parking available, which is actually a big deal if you’re driving in the city. I did notice the air conditioning could struggle on really hot days, and the building’s elevator is one of those tiny European ones that barely fits two people with luggage.

Why It Makes Sense

Look, if you’re expecting hotel services like daily housekeeping or a concierge, this isn’t your place. But if you want a base in Milan that gives you space to spread out, store your shopping finds, and actually live a bit like a local, then I Host Apartment works really well. The host was responsive when I had questions, and the whole experience felt more authentic than staying in the touristy center. For the price, especially during Milan’s peak seasons, it’s honestly solid value in a city where accommodation costs can get pretty steep.

  What could be improved: We payed extra for a cott for my 9month old daughter and all was left was a cott.
  There was no mattress which we couldn’t use for her, so she had to stay in the bed with us and as it was first time for her not being in a cott we was up most nights with not much sleep.
  I did message straight away about the mattress and I got no response at all.
  Shower was hot for 5minutes then start to go cold.
  Bed and sofa bed are uncomfortable.

  Świetne wyposażenie – wszystko, czego potrzebowaliśmy, było na miejscu. Mieszkanie nowoczesne, bardzo ładnie urządzone, a do tego w dobrej lokalizacji, dobrze skomunikowane z resztą miasta. Idealne na nasz pobyt.
  
  What could be improved: Podczas spania narożnik trochę się rozsuwał, co było mało wygodne. Dodatkowo przydałoby się więcej miejsca do przechowywania rzeczy, zwłaszcza w łazience. Samo zameldowanie online to fajna, bezosobowa opcja, ale ilość wymaganych danych – zwłaszcza obowiązkowe selfie – była zdecydowanie przesadzona.

  Location was alright, you were close to the city by car and other travel options.
  There was also a smaller supermarket nearby for easy groceries.
  The apartment size was good with nice accomodations such as a big TV and good kitchen.
  
  What could be improved: If you are looking for parking it would almost be impossible here, the apartment is also at basement level with no access to an elevator.
  Since the apartment was at basement level and you would like to open a window, then you would be met with horrible smell from the streets since the window openings are right beneath the street.
  The floor planning of the apartment is also very strange, half of the apartment is on the higher ground while the other is down low.
  This results in poor accessbility while using for example the wardrobes.
  When it came to warm water then i would saay it is definately not sufficent for 2 people when it comes to showering and would suggest a larger tank for warm water.
  The Wifi also didnt work on the first day which was unfortunate and made it difficult since i had no other using internet.
  I also checked out a day earlier and was hopeful that the host would be serviceminded because of the circumstances and would compensate me but i got no response.

  What could be improved: The price is a little high, but lastly in Milano, it is a standard price. Off course is not the best Price/Value option

  It was clean and the host was very accommodating with our requests. He was thorough and sent a video of how to get into the property which was very helpful. It has everything we needed. We were able to warm up our leftovers which was a plus in the efficient kitchen.
  
  What could be improved: It was just a bit farther away from the subway station than we’d hoped. But the neighborhood felt safe to walk so that was okay. Just don’t travel with lots of luggage because it’s a 20min walk.

  What could be improved: There is no water heating, and when asking the host there is no response. The apartment is dirty, and so the towels. The apartment is at the bottom of the building. Anyone who has heavy bags cannot go down, and when asking the host to go downstairs in the car to drop off the bags, they refused.
