Italianway – Commenda 35 Overview
First Impressions
Italianway – Commenda 35 sits on a quiet street in Milan‘s historic Porta Romana district, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. That’s actually part of its charm — it feels more like stepping into a friend’s well-appointed apartment than checking into a typical hotel. The building itself has that classic Milanese elegance, all understated cream stonework and wrought-iron details that make you slow down and appreciate the neighborhood’s character.
The Space Itself
What strikes you immediately is how thoughtfully designed each room is. I mean, this isn’t your standard three-star setup — there’s real attention to detail here. The apartments (and they really do feel like apartments) come with proper kitchenettes that actually work, not those sad little coffee-maker situations you usually get. You know what I love? The way they’ve mixed modern necessities with touches that feel authentically Italian — think exposed beams alongside sleek appliances.
Location Perks
Here’s where local knowledge comes in handy — Via della Commenda puts you in this sweet spot between the Navigli canals and the city center. You’re a ten-minute walk from Porta Romana metro station, which gets you anywhere in Milan quickly, but the real magic is what’s right around the corner. There’s this incredible bakery two blocks down that locals queue for every morning, and the evening aperitivo scene along the nearby canals is something you shouldn’t miss.
Daily Rhythms
The neighborhood comes alive in waves throughout the day, and staying here lets you experience that rhythm. Mornings are quiet and residential — perfect for that bakery run I mentioned. By evening, though, you’re within walking distance of some of Milan’s best restaurant scenes without being stuck in the touristy chaos of the Duomo area. The staff here gets this balance too; they’re genuinely helpful with local recommendations but never hover.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is how this place solves the Milan accommodation puzzle. You get space to spread out (rare in this city), you’re well-connected to everything that matters, and you’re paying reasonable rates for what you get. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you consider that guests consistently mention feeling like temporary Milan residents rather than just passing through. Plus, having a proper kitchen means you can grab fresh ingredients from the local markets and actually use them — something that transforms a short city break into something more memorable.

Location
What could be improved: Bed location for leaving bagaze.Overall, great value for the money! Highly recommended! – Monta from Latvia – 24 July 2024 (9/10)
The location was great, 20 minute walk to Duomo, 15 minute walk to QC SPA, a lot of public transport options around and also mini market shop around the corner was available. Also AC worked perfectly and was a huge plus and save during the summer heat. Thank You!
What could be improved: Facilities. Only 2 rulls of paper definitely wasn’t enough. Also water heater in kitchen wasn’t working properly. Shower gel also wasn’t available.Great apartment in a convenient location, spotlessly clean and secure. – Joe from United Kingdom – 20 July 2024 (9/10)
We appreciated ItalianWay contacting us before we arrived to give us instructions about picking up the keys from their office at Milano Centrale – this was very convenient as we were arriving by train.
The apartment was in a great location, just two metro stops from Duomo (and walkable once the metro closed around midnight). There were shops close to the apartment to pick up groceries and the Crocetta metro station was very close to the apartment (on the same M3 metro line as Centrale).
The apartment had great facilities, was spotlessly clean, easy to access and felt secure.
What could be improved: Unfortunately there was no laundry liquid and no dishwasher tablets/liquid, which meant we had to buy supplies locally, and then leave behind the excess on departure.
There were also no consumables like coffee in the apartment. Since items like laundry liquid and coffee must be bought in reasonably large quantities, they are unlikely to be used up during the length of the stay.Superb – Monica from Romania – 10 July 2024 (9/10)
I liked the quiet area, close to the center. The apartment was nice, and slept well. A very nice bathroom. Enough space.
Great apartment but heater was not working. – Kgomelsky from Russia – 8 March 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: The air conditioning unit in the bedroom was not working to heat up the room. As it was rather cold outside it was not very comfortable to sleep in the bedroom.
So much papers – Brodjaga78 from Latvia – 15 September 2023 (8/10)
Location and the stuff
What could be improved: So much papers to fill in. The room was not properly cleaned. The floor was very dirty, our feet became almost black. All other was preaty much clean.A lovely apartment with a small balcony in a lovely quiet area in central Milan – Susan from United Kingdom – 28 July 2023 (8/10)
The property was light bright ,spacious, clean and comfortable. It has been tastefully decorated and feels nice and modern. The apartment is located in a lovely and quiet street and only a 5-10 min walk to the metro ( a must in Milan).
What could be improved: Nothing really, maybe some coffee/teaGood value for money in the heart of Milano – Henrik from Denmark – 22 July 2023 (8/10)
Really nice and modern apartment fully equipped in the centre of Milan. Friendly staff, but they seemed very busy and a bit in a rush at the key collection office.
What could be improved: Well, we booked for three persons and unfortunately there were only sheets and towels for two persons, so we had to improvise 😕 The “fast check in” seems more for the benefit of the staff than the customer as it is a quite long and cumbersome process.
