Italianway-Melzo 12 Overview

First Impressions

Italianway-Melzo 12 sits on a quiet residential street in Milan, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s one of those three-star places that feels more like staying in someone’s well-kept apartment building than a traditional hotel — which, given that it’s actually an aparthotel, makes perfect sense. The entrance is understated, but once you’re inside, there’s something refreshingly authentic about the whole setup.

Location & Getting Around

Via Melzo is in the Porta Garibaldi area, which I’d describe as Milan’s emerging creative district. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the Porta Garibaldi train station, where you can catch the Malpensa Express to the airport — something I really appreciated when checking out early for my flight. The Moscova metro stop is even closer, maybe 8 minutes on foot, putting you two stops from the Duomo. What I loved most was the neighborhood vibe; there are these great little cafés where locals actually hang out, not just tourists taking Instagram photos.

The Apartment Experience

Each apartment here comes with its own kitchenette, which honestly saved me quite a bit of money during my stay. Mine had this compact but functional setup with a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, and all the basics you’d need for simple meals. The room itself was clean and modern — not fancy, but everything worked properly, which you know isn’t always a given at this price point. The Wi-Fi was solid too, important since I had to do some work during my trip.

Practical Considerations

One thing to know upfront: there’s no traditional hotel reception desk with someone there 24/7. Check-in is handled through a key lockbox system, which worked fine for me but might feel weird if you’re used to full-service hotels. Parking isn’t included, but there’s street parking nearby — though like anywhere in Milan, it fills up pretty quickly. The building itself is older but well-maintained, and I actually enjoyed the authentic Milanese residential feel of it all.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is the value proposition. You get your own space with a kitchen in a genuinely local neighborhood, all for significantly less than what you’d pay for a hotel room in the touristy areas. The 7.5 rating reflects exactly what you’d expect — it’s not perfect, but it delivers on what it promises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer trips when having that kitchen becomes really valuable. Just don’t expect hotel-style services, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and practical the whole experience is.

Reviews of Italianway-Melzo 12

  • Good location – Chaimungkhun from France – 27 August 2025 (8/10)

Big kitchen with useful equipment, high ceiling, good location close to transport, restaurants, and supermarkets.

What could be improved: We stayed in August. The A/C did not work well at the beginning, but luckily it started working. The old A/C was a bit noisy.

  • Overall the stay was great and any problem we had were eventually solved with the help of the host. Would be nice if the – Laura from Romania – 16 July 2025 (9/10)

The location is great, a bit away from the boulevard so it’s not noisy at all but also close to some bars so in the weekend the street is very animated. The room is clean and comfy.

What could be improved: The QR system, even though is more convenient since you don’t have to spend any time doing the check in or waiting for someone to bring you the key, can be not so great during a power outage 😀

  • The location was great. I definitely recommend it! – Martin from Armenia – 30 May 2025 (7/10)

I liked the location — it’s close to many great cafés and bars. It’s also near Milano Centrale and some good stores for shopping.

What could be improved: There was no tea, still water, even one item like that in the apartment. Also, early in the morning there was noise from garbage collection not a big deal but anyway.

  • Great – Christine from Australia – 22 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location. Close to transport. Dining within walking distance. The place was comfortable.

What could be improved: The bathroom is a bit narrow.

  • Was good – Rodney from Australia – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location , clean and had all the amenities that I required

What could be improved: Having to use QR code it was a bit difficult but once you manage it you do get use to it

  • Staying at Melzo 12 – Konovalova from Canada – 25 October 2024 (7/10)

Location is great, a lot of cafés, bars, shops around, very close to everything. Metro and bises are 2 min walk from the place. Very nice patio, where you can take coffee or chat, with nice patio furniture.

What could be improved: The attitude of the staff:asked for the bedding – was waiting for 2 nights for it, asked for the key, was told it's only virtual and saw a real key in the neibour's hands. No toaster, no coffee maker, nothing except the kettle in the kitchen, very basic,. in the bathroom no shower curtain, water splashes, saw a cocroach in the bathroom. No sound isolation, you hear the entrance door opens and elevator works, when neighbors come at night.

  • Good stay for 2-3 nights – Yuliia from Ukraine – 20 August 2024 (7/10)

Comfortable bed, clean space, and all the necessary kitchen essentials. The check-in process was fast, and the apartment itself is very cozy

What could be improved: Before moving in, you have to sign a contract in which one of the clauses states the property owners are not responsible if you’re robbed. This felt a bit suspicious and made us feel unsafe in the apartment

  • the check-in problem must be solved – Catalina from Romania – 17 August 2023 (7/10)

I liked the location very much

What could be improved: I didn't like the check-in experience, it was the worst so far. They haven't answered the phone since 3 p.m. when check-in started. The code didn't work, and in the end we had to go to a location (written by email in case the code doesn't work). One person went (luckily there were two of us and one stayed with the luggage waiting at the door) and we talked, we were given another code and in the end it worked. They said that there was a problem with the system and that it would have been running since 4 p.m. It seems that it is something that has not been resolved for a long time. Also there were 2 joined beds instead of a big one.

  • Superb – Диана from United States – 11 August 2023 (9/10)

It was located in the good district.

What could be improved: It was a little bit confusing how to enter a building.

  • Apart of the door episode the stay was good – Tsyrulik from Cyprus – 28 July 2023 (8/10)

Cozy, nice looking place with everything you need in there.

What could be improved: when we arrived the door lock was not working so we couldn’t enter the apartment. After calling the service number we were dropped off the call several times, so we waited 1,5 hour for someone to come and open the door for us. it is a bit frustrating to spend 1,5 of your day in Milano sitting by the door without getting help.
