Piazza DUOMO – Antico Appartamento dell’800 Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Piazza DUOMO – Antico Appartamento dell’800 feels like stepping into someone’s carefully curated Milanese home rather than a typical hotel. The building dates back to the 1800s, and honestly, you can feel that history in every corner — from the original hardwood floors that creak just slightly underfoot to the high ceilings that make you crane your neck upward. It’s positioned right on Via San Maurilio, which means you’re basically living like a local in the heart of Milan‘s most coveted neighborhood.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what’s wild? You can literally see the Duomo from some angles here, and I mean the actual cathedral, not just a distant glimpse. The location is ridiculous in the best way — La Scala is a five-minute stroll, and the Quadrilatero della Moda (that’s the fashion district for those not in the know) is right there when you want to window shop or blow your budget. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: this street is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep well, unlike some places closer to the main piazzas where the noise never stops.
The Living Space
This four-star property feels more like staying in an elegant apartment than a standard hotel room. Each space has its own personality — some feature original frescoed ceilings, others have these gorgeous period furnishings that somehow don’t feel stuffy or museum-like. The kitchenette areas are actually functional (not just for show), which is perfect if you want to grab fresh ingredients from the morning markets and have a proper Italian breakfast at your own pace.
The Details That Count
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with authentic character. The WiFi actually works (not always a given in historic buildings), the heating is reliable during those chilly Milan winters, and the bathrooms have been updated without destroying the original charm. The staff knows their stuff too — they’ll point you toward that little restaurant around the corner that doesn’t show up in guidebooks but serves the best risotto alla milanese you’ll find anywhere.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gives you the Milan experience locals actually live, not the tourist version. You’re close enough to hit all the major sights without feeling like you’re camping in Times Square, and the building itself tells a story that connects you to the city’s real history. At 8.1 out of 10, guests consistently mention how it feels like discovering a secret — which, in a city as tourist-heavy as Milan, is worth its weight in euros. Plus, there’s something satisfying about staying somewhere that your friends back home probably haven’t heard of yet.

Reviews of Piazza DUOMO – Antico Appartamento dell’800
Beautiful interior, great and central location! – Salsabila from Indonesia – 31 October 2025 (10/10)
Amazing location just a few hundred meters to the Duomo, and a huge space for our group of 5 adults! The interior design is very beautiful like staying in a museum! Easy to check in and out. Would love to stay here again if I’m back in Milan.

Spacious , well located . – Nathalie from Canada – 3 March 2025 (7/10)
Very spacious, large bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, great location and the place was clean , beautiful windows all around and balconies . Coffee available and full kitchen . Waking distance from most places . Amazing coffee shop right next to it . Elevator as well .
What could be improved: The noise , bar right in front of the living room but in the bedrooms you don’t not hear the street noise .Beautiful place. So-so manager – Rodrigo from United Kingdom – 3 February 2025 (7/10)
Beautiful flat.
What could be improved: Had some issues with the management of the apt that shouldve been simple to solve (clean bedsheets for all the beds we would use). He insisted we had all we needed.Great accommodations but be prepared to check out very early. – William from United States – 9 October 2024 (7/10)
Accommodations were great, location was great. Staff was great and David was very helpful with cab and bag storage.
What could be improved: Check out time of 10:00 was too early. Was very good – Charly from Qatar – 27 September 2024 (9/10)
The authenticity of the place
What could be improved: First 24 hours the smell of smoke was intense but later it got better and the main sofa needs to be refurbished while one room
Was without light. And it has high humiditySatisfactory stay in well-located traditional apartment; caution if you want to use 3rd bedroom – Susannah from United States – 26 June 2024 (8/10)
Well situated, traditional apartment that had lots of room to spread out. Easy access to property. Close to the heart of the city for touring.
What could be improved: Booking made for 4 people – my mother, my daughter & her boyfriend and was told upon arrival that we could not have access to the third bedroom shown in photos, that that bedroom was only available for 6-person reservations. To "open" that bedroom, I would be charged 30 Euros extra per bed/day — an exorbitant fee as this apartment is very expensive already… a fair expense warranted for the 3 bedroom I assumed I was getting, which I did not. So listing/photos are misleading in terms of what is actually available for a 4-person party. Host was a prompt communicator but hounded me about check out time in literally every single communication during our short stay which was annoying. Bar next door is very noisy in the living area until 2am – though in the bedrooms it is quiet, so not bothersome unless you're forced to sleep on the couch.Would stay again any time! 🙂 – Mike from United States – 16 April 2024 (9/10)
We loved this place. It looks as good as in pictures. Nice combination of historic charm combined with new kitchen and bathrooms. Plenty of space. Great location. Clean and comfortable. Small balconies. Public garage just around the corner.
i would definitely stay here again when in Milan. – Lynne from United States – 11 January 2024 (9/10)
The apartment was stunning and very comfortable. The location was excellent. There was a lift. There was a moderate amount of supplies for our stay. Self-checkin was outstanding. Communication before and during our stay was very timely.
What could be improved: It was pricey, but it was worth it. However, for the price and the number of days we rented for, I think more coffee and tissues would have been in order. Thanks – Omar from United Arab Emirates – 18 May 2023 (8/10)
Location, clean
What could be improved: Everyhing good , but we as arab we need bath with hose pump
