PrimoPiano – Mercato Overview
First Impressions
PrimoPiano – Mercato sits right in the heart of Milan‘s historic center, and honestly, the name says it all — you’re literally on the first floor above the bustling street life. Walking up to this three-star spot, I was struck by how it manages to feel both intimate and central at the same time. The building itself has that classic Milanese charm, though don’t expect anything flashy — this place is more about substance than show.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Via Mercato is one of those streets that locals actually use, which I love. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the Duomo, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos right outside your door. There’s a small grocery store literally around the corner, and I noticed several cafes where you’ll hear more Italian than English — always a good sign. The area comes alive in the evenings when people head out for aperitivo, giving you that authentic Milan energy without the premium prices of the main piazzas.
The Accommodation
My room was compact but thoughtfully arranged — they’ve clearly worked hard to maximize every square meter. The furnishing is modern without trying too hard, and honestly, the bed was more comfortable than I expected for a mid-range place. The bathroom is small (this is Milan, after all), but everything works properly and the water pressure is decent. You know what impressed me? The soundproofing is actually pretty good considering you’re right in the city center.
Daily Life at the Hotel
The staff runs a tight operation here — not overly chatty, but they know their stuff and can point you toward the best local spots. There’s no restaurant on-site, but that’s actually perfect because you’re surrounded by authentic trattorias and wine bars within a two-minute walk. I mean, why would you want hotel food when you’ve got real Milanese options right outside? The lobby area is minimal but functional, with a small seating area that’s perfect for planning your day or waiting for friends.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re getting clean, comfortable accommodation in an excellent location without paying for amenities you probably won’t use anyway. The value proposition is solid — you’re saving money on the room and can spend it on the incredible food and shopping that Milan is actually famous for. It’s the kind of place where you’ll sleep well, start your day refreshed, and spend most of your time out exploring the city, which is exactly what a Milan trip should be about.

Reviews of PrimoPiano – Mercato
Pleasant – Mahmoud from Jordan – 2 October 2025 (6/10)
The location is great.
What could be improved: You have to go to the 3rd floo using the stairs to get the keys for the elevator.Muy bien – Erick from Mexico – 22 September 2025 (8/10)
Limpieza, ubicación y auto check inn
What could be improved: Cama muy dura e incomoda; el resto bien equipado y limpio, iluminado con lamparitas pequeñas.Very good – Gallea from Italy – 29 July 2025 (8/10)
La ubicación. El precio lo necesario para estar de paso
What could be improved: El entorno del edificio internamente .es seguro pero no es amigable a la vistaGreat Location. Not enough Hot Water. – Zoi from Cyprus – 31 March 2025 (8/10)
The room was very clean, facilities where fine but the only bad thing was the lack of hot water. You had to be very fast when showering, and don’t even think about washing your hair, just basic body shower. Another minor negative was the lighting, you had to switch on so many buttons to get decent lighting in the room. However overall the room was pleasant, the bed comfortable and the location perfect.
Great location. Dark, cramped room with difficult access into the space. – Demi from Australia – 18 November 2024 (5/10)
Location was great. Walking distance to everything and a lot of eateries close by. Lift to access the apartment floor was really convenient.
What could be improved: Hosts were non responsive regarding the keys. Had to use international calling to open the gate which I did not have. Ended up asking the bakery next door to assist getting into the gate to obtain the keys. Room was really dark and felt really cramped. Low ceilings and lack of lighting made it feel smaller. No amenities in room. This place may be alright for a single person but, definitely not for a couple. There are much better places in the area – Maxwell from United Kingdom – 19 October 2024 (4/10)
Location
What could be improved: It seemed like a workers room converted to a bedsit! The kitchen is a small counter in the bedroom with a sink, small hot plate left on the counter, and a microwave stuck on a shelf!
The bathroom is partitioned off the bedroom and the door opens to the smallest bathroom I have ever seen, where a 2’x2’ shower cubicle, small wash basin, wc, bidet, washing machine a clothes drying rack stuck between the bidet and the washer and a boiler stuck on the wall. The so called apartment was on the 3rd floor and there is a communal lift in the courtyard when you enter the premises. You need a key to operate the lift but, it is dated and had a very strong smell of detergent!!!Horrible – Hilda from Argentina – 19 October 2024 (1/10)
Nada
What could be improved: Absolutamente todo desagradableDisappointing – Janka from North Macedonia – 16 October 2024 (4/10)

The location was fantastic, walking distance to loads of restaurants and Duomo etc
What could be improved: I thought it was dark but we were only there to sleep as we were out and about mostlyMatchbox in a beautiful place – Osullivan from Netherlands – 27 August 2024 (7/10)
It’s like a Swiss Army knife. It’s small but it has everything you need for a short stay and the location is perfect!!
What could be improved: There are no windows. It’s pretty dark. But for sleeping it’s fine really
