Residenza Porta Romana Overview

First Impressions

Residenza Porta Romana sits on one of Milan’s most authentic streets, and honestly, that’s what struck me first — this isn’t trying to be flashy or trendy. The building has this understated elegance that feels very Milanese, you know? It’s tucked into Corso di Porta Romana, which I actually love because you get real neighborhood life mixed with easy access to everything that matters.

The Neighborhood Feel

What I really appreciate about this spot is how it captures Milan’s daily rhythm. You’re walking distance from the Navigli district — maybe fifteen minutes if you’re strolling — but you’re not dealing with all the tourist crowds right outside your door. The Porta Romana area has these great little cafés where locals actually go for their morning espresso, and there’s a Sunday market nearby that most visitors never find.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this nice balance of modern updates without losing character. Nothing overly fancy, but everything worked properly — and as someone who’s dealt with temperamental Italian plumbing, that’s not always guaranteed. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and they’ve got decent soundproofing, which matters when you’re on a busy corso like this one.

Getting Around

Metro-wise, you’ve got Porta Romana station practically around the corner, and that yellow line gets you to the Duomo in maybe ten minutes. I mean, you could walk to the center if you wanted — it’s about twenty-five minutes — but the metro connection makes everything simple. There’s also decent parking nearby if you’re driving, though honestly, in Milan, you probably don’t want to be.

Why Guests Love It

This four-star place works because it feels like you’re staying in Milan rather than just visiting it. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the good gelato place (not the tourist trap one) and tell you which nights the aperitivo scene is worth checking out. It’s not the kind of hotel that tries to keep you inside with fancy amenities, and that’s sort of perfect for Milan, where the city itself is the main attraction. You get a solid base without paying for services you probably won’t use anyway.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Milan before spring brings wisteria blooms, design installations, and warm evening breezes.

Reviews of Residenza Porta Romana

  • Overall, we had a good stay. – Immaculata from Nigeria – 8 November 2025 (8/10)

The host was promptly at hand to hand over the keys to us on arrival.
All the basic amenities we required were available in the apartment.
The location was very central, Metro station was 4 minutes walk from the apartment

What could be improved: The floor is unattractive and unappealing.
The bed did not have a head-rest and side-board.
The room abuts a busy road, Via dei Pellegrini and the noise from street sweepers and pedestrians was very discomforting, as well as noise from guests on the upper floor.

  • Location, location, location. Close to metro and everything you want to see. Comfortable bed and shower. Warm welcome. – Betsy from United States – 21 October 2025 (7/10)

Location! Warm welcome! The courtyard is beautiful. The bed was comfortable. The shower water pressure was great. Nice to have a washer though we didn’t use it. The space felt secure and in a good neighbourhood.

What could be improved: The courtyard picture didn’t represent the unit. The windows all have a frosted film for privacy because the unit is on an alley below street level. The space ends up feeling rather windowless. We could not get the coffee pot to work.

  • i liked espresso mornings in the garden – Marwan from Jordan – 30 July 2025 (8/10)

Good location, quite area, secured and clean, also they did not forget to put mosquito machine, not to mention espresso macjine

What could be improved: the mosquito

  • Great location minutes away from Duomo – Daniele from Italy – 20 January 2025 (9/10)

Good location. Easy to find / easy to access., although parking (or even temporary stops nearby the entrance) can be problematic.
    Apartment is on ground floor

What could be improved: Nothing really, except that there is no option for daily cleaning for longer stays

  • I would Book this Appartement again. – Sylvia from Germany – 21 July 2024 (9/10)

Very fine Personal support. Air condition. Espresso-machine and Everything you need for being autonomous in eating. Fine bathroom, excellent showering. Reaching duomo and central station and linate airport in minutes.

What could be improved: Appartement is at ground floor, This was completely okay, but the picture suggests higher floor with balcony.

  • Very good – Ayman from Egypt – 2 July 2024 (8/10)

    clean,

What could be improved: far from city center, power went off at the day of our arrival

  • Convenient, Clean, and Comfortable – Sweet from United States – 2 October 2023 (9/10)

The apartment is near where all my meetings were being held; very convenient! Located in area with excellent Metro, bus and tram service. Lovely old cobblestone courtyard and excellent security.

What could be improved: Street noise late at night. Apartment bedroom adjacent to frequently-used pedestrian walkway, and vehicle shortcut. Noise subsides after midnight, resumes in morning.

  • It was a great base for a couple of days. – Adele from United Kingdom – 28 July 2023 (9/10)

The property was well equipped for a short stay. We arrived late and directions on how to locate the keys and entering the property were very easy to follow. It literally is a 4 minute walk from the metro so easily accessible.

  • Nice place! – West from United States – 12 July 2023 (9/10)

Clean, comfortable, good in all ways.

What could be improved: Construction noise overhead starting early in the a.m. My guess is that this will be temporary.

  • Good – Alain from United States – 30 May 2023 (7/10)

What could be improved: In the room you can hear a lot of noise from the cars on the street throughout the day
