Maison Borella Overview
First Impressions
Maison Borella sits right on the Alzaia Naviglio Grande, and honestly, the location hits you before you even walk through the door. This four-star boutique hotel occupies a beautifully restored building that feels like it’s always belonged along this historic canal. The entrance has this understated elegance — not flashy, just confident in what it offers.
The Navigli Experience
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally in the heart of Milan’s most vibrant nightlife district, but the hotel itself feels like a peaceful retreat. The Navigli canals buzz with aperitivo crowds and canal-side dining, especially on weekends when locals flood the area. I mean, you can grab your morning coffee at one of the waterfront cafés, then stumble back after dinner without needing to figure out Milan’s metro system.
The Room
The rooms here strike this perfect balance between modern comfort and Italian character. My room had these gorgeous exposed brick details and floor-to-ceiling windows that actually opened — something you don’t always get in boutique hotels. The beds are seriously comfortable, and the bathrooms feel almost spa-like with their clean lines and quality fixtures. What I appreciated most was the attention to soundproofing, because while the Navigli can get lively, you won’t hear it once you close your door.
Dining and Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant focuses on contemporary Italian cuisine, and they really know their way around local ingredients. Breakfast isn’t your typical continental spread — they actually put thought into sourcing quality products from regional suppliers. There’s also a small wellness area with a sauna that’s perfect after walking around Milan all day, though it’s intimate rather than sprawling.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Maison Borella — it gets Milan right. You’re close enough to walk to the Duomo (about 20 minutes), but you’re staying in a neighborhood where actual Milanese people hang out. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy helping guests discover the area, and they’ll point you toward the best aperitivo spots that tourists usually miss. Plus, parking in this part of Milan is notoriously tricky, but they’ve sorted that out for guests who need it. It’s one of those places that feels special without trying too hard, which is exactly what you want in a city as stylish as Milan.

Reviews of Maison Borella
Would easily book again. – Andrew from United Kingdom – 3 December 2025 (9/10)
Staff were fantastic and genuinely really helpful, especially making sure I got to room as you pass through restaurant – this adds to it…
Hotel is beautiful inside, comfortable and my room on top floor was class!
Central location for my business meeting and plenty of good places to eat.
What could be improved: Main door to bedroom let in quite a bit of light and disrupted my sleep a little…minor.Exceptional – George from Greece – 24 November 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic location, architecture and decor.
Perfect location, very good hotel with some nice touches. – Karen from United Kingdom – 9 November 2025 (8/10)
The hotel is situated on the canal and its a very lively frontage with lots of restaurants and cafes. If you do not like noise ask for a room at the rear not facing the canal.
The rooms are a good size, the beds are comfy, robe and slippers are provided. The rooms have a hair dryer, safe and a mini bar – no tea/coffee making facilities.
The staff were all friendly.
The hotel is on a pedestrian area but you can take your car in to unload and load with permission from the hotel. There is a garage not far from the hotel 5 minutes walk at 40 Euros a day which is a 24 hour manned car park.
What could be improved: The restaurant. The food was very nice and would have been excellent but was served luke warm. We did notify the waitress but she asked if we wanted it taken away and put in the microwave which as I had fish I said no as I felt that would dry it out. The response from the staff after being told that 4 starters and 4 main courses were all served warm rather than hot was disappointing.
They also took away food plates from 2 people as they had finished whilst 2 others were still eating which was a bit awkward.
It put us off eating there the second night and we eat out.Exceptional – Steve from Canada – 8 November 2025 (10/10)
Upscale hotel on Milan’s canal neighborhood.
Easy access from Metro or tram to other areas of the City.
Especially convenient to the Malpensa Express train from the
Cordona Metro!
What could be improved: NothingHighly recommend – Tarvo from Estonia – 7 November 2025 (10/10)
Very nice interior, quiet room even facing the canal side. Cool interior, greatt breakfast, great dinner.
A lovely hotel, in a great location and perfect for a short stay – Colin from United Kingdom – 1 November 2025 (8/10)
Great location.
What could be improved: N/AWe enjoyed our stay at Msison Borells because of the location and the visit we had to Milan was very enjoyable. – Jill from United Kingdom – 30 October 2025 (8/10)
The location was great lots of restaurants to choose from nearby. Lovely area to be in.
What could be improved: For a 4 star hotel it seemed poor that to get a decent cup of coffee in the morning they wanted to charge extra. Without the extra charge it was coffee and hot water from thermos flasks. Which were never really hot enough. It could also be noisy as the sound carried up through the courtyard. Earplugs were provided though.Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location with amazing staff. – Sharon from United Kingdom – 20 October 2025 (10/10)
The building is beautiful and in a great location.
What could be improved: Our room was at the front so quite noisy but it didn’t spoil our stay.An amazing birthday week in Milan – Katherine from Thailand – 14 October 2025 (10/10)
I took my mom on her dream European trip, for her birthday. She arrived at the accommodation first and messaged me upon your arrival, "You're going to be very happy with your selection!" and she was right. The accommodation was beautiful and was in the perfect location. At night, because of the location, it does get a little noisy as night but we listened to peaceful meditation music at night to help combat the noise. The staff were extremely accommodating and everyone was VERY nice! Thank you for an amazing week in Milan. Ciao
What could be improved: One issue we had was the body wash in the shower wasn't replaced/refilled but other than that we were extremely happy with our stay. It wasn't an issue as we just used the bar of soap provided near the sink.We will be back! – Susanna from Switzerland – 12 October 2025 (10/10)
The location is perfect. Especially for women travelling alone. At night there is always lots of people out. And everything in Milano is easily reachable either by tram of Metro.
